BHMS BOOK FAIR - October 9 through October 14. Details in next week's newsletter.

For more dates, check out the A/B  DAY SCHEDULE AND EVENTS CALENDAR and the BHMS DAILY BELL SCHEDULE (includes lunch periods) on the BHMS Website.

PICTURE DAY IS SEPTEMBER 19

Picture Day at BHMS is on Tuesday, September 19. Students will be called down throughout the day, so it is not possible to give an exact schedule of when each grade will have pictures taken. SO, students in all grades should arrive at school ready for pictures. All students will have their picture taken for student ID cards. If you wish to order a school photo package, you may do so in one of two ways:

  1. Order and pre-pay directly online through Lifetouch (mylifetouch.com). You must enter Picture Day ID number LM727122Y0 (the last number is a zero) to get to the Bloomfield Hills Middle School page.

  2. ON PICTURE DAY, have your child bring in the completed hard copy order form that will be sent home to students next week, along with the payment for your order. Payment must be the exact amount. Change is not available. Make checks payable to Lifetouch. (Click here for a downloadable version of the picture day form to print at home).

BHMS FALL FORENSICS AUDITIONS NEXT WEEK

Auditions for the Fall BHMS Forensics team will take place next week. If your student wishes to audition, you must do both of the following:

1) Complete this online Forensics Audition Survey no later than Tuesday, September 19. Date and time of auditions and instructions for signing up for an audition are on this form.

2) Print this Audition Packet in its entirety and follow instructions in the packet. There is contact information in the packet in the event that you have questions.

GREAT VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITY

Did you know that the BHMS school clinic is staffed entirely by parent/guardian volunteers? Each volunteer works just one half day a month, but is a tremendous help to the office staff. Not a nurse or a doctor? Don't worry. In the health clinic volunteers don't dispense medicine; just (lots of) ice bags, band aids and TLC. There are a number of slots still unfilled for the 2017-2018 school year. If you are interested in a permanent slot, please contact Stephanie Spinale at 248-207-2571 or email stephspinale4201@outlook.com.

8th GRADE WASHINGTON D.C. TRIP PARENT INFORMATION MEETING

The annual BHMS 8th grade Washington, D.C. trip is planned for April 25-28, 2018. Return to BHMS will be at approximately 9 a.m. on the morning of April 28. There will be a parent information meeting on Tuesday, October 3, at 7:00 p.m. in the BHMS cafeteria. BHMS teachers Mr. Neuwirth and Mr. Baker will once again be the trip coordinators. At the meeting they will present information about the trip, the itinerary and the cost. If you are a parent of an eighth-grader who is interested in going on the trip, please attend this important meeting. If you would like more information prior to the meeting, please email Mr. Neuwirth or Mr. Baker.

PTO NEWS

The new BHMS PTO Co-Presidents, Stacy Fox and Deb Zupanic, are getting the year off to a great start. They have created the PTO NEWS, which will be linked to our Lancer Update each week. Additionally, they have met with Principal English to share their plans for fun student and family events, as  well as ways to raise and allocate funds to support BHMS activities not covered in the general budget.

Remember, the "O" in PTO stands for organization, defined as "an organized body of people with a particular purpose". Please be one of those people with a purpose by becoming an active PTO member. Open the PTO NEWS for the next meeting date, dates for other events, and for volunteer opportunities.

"Volunteers do not necessarily have the time; they just have the heart." - Elizabeth Andrew

MUSIC BOOSTERS NEWS

Volunteers are needed to bake and sell for BHMS Music Boosters bake sales, which take place every Wednesday after school. Bakers are asked to bring in two dozen individual pieces, which must be entirely free of nuts or nut products/by products. If purchasing baked goods, please check that they are also from a nut-free facility. Baked goods can be dropped off in the office anytime during your scheduled bake sale day. If you are signing up to sell, please arrive at 2:45 p.m. for setup in the Gateway area. Click here to volunteer to bake or sell on assigned dates. Any questions or if you can't make it? Please email contact Patty Shaw.

BOX TOPS FOR EDUCATION REDEMPTION DATE COMING SOON

Throughout the years families have supported BHMS by turning in Box Tops for Education, which can be found on numerous food and other products.  Each Box Top is worth ten cents to BHMS -- but worth nothing if you toss them in your waste basket. The math is simply amazing. If each of our 750 students brought in 10 box tops each month, for the nine months of the school year, BHMS would earn $6,750 to use toward programs or purchases not covered under the budget.

The first of two Box Tops redemption periods is coming up soon, so please send in any Box Tops that you've already saved up. There is a collection box in the Main Office. Thanks for supporting BHMS in small ways that can have big results. For more information about products that contain Box Tops, click HERE.

NO DOGS ON GROUNDS DURING SCHOOL OR AT AFTER SCHOOL EVENTS - INCLUDING SPORTS PRACTICES OR GAMES

As a reminder, for the safety of our students, staff, and visitors, dogs are not allowed on school grounds between the hours of 7:00 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. when school is in session OR at any time that school events - including sports practices and games - are taking place.

MYP COORDINATOR'S CORNER by Kathy Janelle

Please read this week's MYP Newsletter from BHMS MYP Coordinator / Teacher Leader, Kathy Janelle. It overviews this month's MYP Learner Profile Trait of Caring.

SHOP AT KROGER AND SUPPORT BHMS

You can support BHMS when you do your regular shopping at Kroger by designating Bloomfield Hills Middle School as your Plus Card Community Rewards program recipient. The Kroger website provides instructions for setting up a new account, or for designating Bloomfield Hills Middle School (Organization Code 28755) to your existing account.

Once you've designated BHMS as your organization, each time you shop at Kroger and use your Plus Card, BHMS earns reward points, which translate into checks paid to BHMS quarterly. That's all there is to it!

PLEASE DO NOT BRING ITEMS CONTAINING NUTS OR NUT PRODUCTS INTO ANY AREA OF THE BUILDING

Please remember that BHMS IS AN ENTIRELY NUT-RESTRICTED BUILDING, 24-HOURS A DAY, SEVEN DAYS A WEEK. There are students in the building who are highly allergic to peanuts and all kinds of tree nuts, and their well-being is of concern.

Students should not bring lunch or snacks containing nuts or nut products. Additionally, while your donations and gifts are very much appreciated, we ask that you make sure anything given to the office, to teachers or classrooms, for bake sales, end-of-sports or club parties or any other occasion are free of all nuts and nut products. Thank you so much for your consideration.
