For more dates, check out the A/B  DAY SCHEDULE AND EVENTS CALENDAR and the BHMS DAILY BELL SCHEDULE (includes lunch periods) on the BHMS Website

The CLUB CALENDAR is now on the main page of the BHMS website. Please bookmark the link as a reference for your student's club meeting dates, start times and end times.

BOOK FAIR IS OCTOBER 9 THROUGH 13

WOW! Thank you for the overwhelming response to our earlier request for Book Fair volunteers! Our BHMS community really is amazing. There are still some volunteer spots open. If you haven't yet volunteered and can help out, please open this Book Fair Volunteer sheet (when the link opens, scroll down toward the bottom of the page) and see if you might be able to fill one of the remaining volunteer openings. It really is a fun way to interact with the students and help the school at the same time. No experience is necessary. You'll be shown everything you need to know when you arrive.

And when you're not volunteering, don't forget to come and shop at the Book Fair. It's a great opportunity to do some early holiday shopping. Students will have the opportunity to come down with their classes. The fair will also be open to BHMS families during the following times:

Monday, October 9 - 8:00 - 11:25 a.m. (This is a half day of school)
Tuesday & Wednesday, October 10 and 11 - 8:00 a.m. until 3:30 p.m.
Thursday, October 12 - 8:00 a.m. until 7:00 p.m.
Friday, October 13 - 8:00 a.m. until 3:30 p.m.

All proceeds benefit BHMS Media Center programs. See you there!

IS YOUR STUDENT IN A BHMS CLUB? PLEASE READ THIS

If your student recently signed up for a BHMS Club, please review this information:

1) The Club Start Date and Sponsor Information sheet has been updated. Please double check to see if any information has changed for your student's club. You can e-mail a club sponsor by simply clicking on their name in the club sponsor column of this sheet. The Forensics Just for Fun Club sponsor's name has been added to this list.

2) Please make sure that you have submitted a Pay to Participate (P2P) fee on your student's behalf. You can pay by credit card by calling 248-433-0885. As an alternative, you can print and complete this form and take it or mail it (don't mail cash, please) with your payment directly to the District Athletics and Recreation Office at 7273 Wing Lake Road, Bloomfield 48301. Do not have your student give the fee to the club sponsor.

3) Bookmark this BHMS CLUB CALENDAR for your future reference. All club meeting dates and start and end times are on this calendar for your convenience.

4) A reminder about dropping off and picking up your students for clubs. Out of safety for your student and consideration to club sponsors, students must not be dropped off prior to five minutes before a morning meeting, and must be picked up immediately at the end of an afternoon meeting. If your schedule does not accommodate this, we recommend signing your student up for the District's Kidz Zone before and after school care program. The program runs from 7 a.m. until 6 p.m. Pre-registration for Kidz Zone is required, and fees apply.

SAVE THE DATE TO MAKE A DIFFERENCE

As in past years, schools in the BH District are coming together for Make a Difference Day. This year the District is partnering with Cass Community Social Services to make a difference in areas of need. Please open this flyer for the who, what, when and where of Make a Difference Day, which is Saturday, October 29. Special thanks to Suzanne Vaupel, who is the BHMS Make a Difference Day representative.

PTO NEWS

The PTO is still looking for volunteers to help out with the October family event. Open this week's PTO NEWS for details on volunteer opportunities and other news from PTO. Please consider volunteering your time. Making a difference can happen every day!

"Volunteering is the ultimate exercise in democracy. You vote in elections once a year, but when you volunteer, you vote every day about the kind of community you want to live in". -Author Unknown

MUSIC BOOSTERS NEWS

OCTOBER MEETING: The next Music Boosters meeting is Tuesday, October 10, from 11-11:45 a.m. in the Orchestra Room.  Your presence is welcome and your opinion is valued. Please come.

7TH GRADE BAND AND ORCHESTRA FAMILIES: Last week your student was measured by the Music Boosters for a tuxedo shirt and the order form was sent home with a recommended size. The online order deadline is October 15.  To order or to download the sizing guide, please go to https://bloomfieldms2017.itemorder.com

HELP KEEP THE MUSIC PLAYING - JOIN MUSIC BOOSTERS! Music Boosters welcomes all families of students in the band, orchestra, choir, and musical drama to participate in our annual membership drive.  Music Boosters was not part of the online registration process, so here is a Music Boosters Membership Form to make it easy for you to join. Your membership dues helps fund a percussion ensemble instructor for all grades, instrumental clinicians/piano accompanist for all grades, instrument luggage tags for 5th graders, 6th grade Domination Tour buses, 7th grade music field trips, 8th grade musical drama costumes and professional choreographer, 8th grade Chicago shirts and graduation medals, and so much more!

VOLUNTEERS NEEDED FOR BAKE SALES: Volunteers are needed to bake and sell for BHMS Music Boosters bake sales, which take place every Wednesday after school. Bakers are asked to bring in two dozen individual pieces, which must be entirely free of nuts or nut products/by products. If purchasing baked goods, please check that they are also from a nut-free facility. Baked goods can be dropped off in the office any time during your scheduled bake sale day. If you are signing up to sell, please arrive at 2:45 p.m. for setup in the Gateway area. Click here to volunteer to bake or sell on assigned dates. Any questions or if you can't make it? Please email contact Patty Shaw.

PLEASE SEND IN YOUR BOX TOPS FOR EDUCATION

The first of two yearly Box Tops for Education redemption dates is coming up soon. There is a Box Tops collection bin in the main office. Please send in any you've been collecting. REMEMBER . . . each Box Top is worth ten cents to BHMS -- but worth nothing if you toss them in your waste basket. The math is simply amazing. If each of our 750 students brought in 10 box tops each month, for the nine months of the school year, BHMS would earn $6,750 to use toward programs or purchases not covered under the budget.

Thanks for supporting BHMS in small ways that can have big results. For more information about products that contain Box Tops, click HERE.

MYP COORDINATOR'S CORNER by Kathy Janelle

Please read this week's MYP Newsletter from BHMS MYP Coordinator / Teacher Leader, Kathy Janelle. It overviews this month's MYP Learner Profile Trait of "Inquirer".

YEARBOOK PHOTOS NEEDED

You can now upload pictures for consideration for use in the yearbook! Mrs. Iacobelli, our Yearbook Coordinator, is using an app/website this year to help streamline the process. Click Here to access the site. When registering, make sure to choose Bloomfield Hills Middle School as your home school. Pictures of sporting events and extracurricular activities are especially welcome.

SHOP AT KROGER AND SUPPORT BHMS

You can support BHMS when you do your regular shopping at Kroger by designating Bloomfield Hills Middle School as your Plus Card Community Rewards program recipient. The Kroger website provides instructions for setting up a new account, or for designating Bloomfield Hills Middle School (Organization Code 28755) to your existing account.

Once you've designated BHMS as your organization, each time you shop at Kroger and use your Plus Card, BHMS earns reward points, which translate into checks paid to BHMS quarterly. That's all there is to it!

NO DOGS ON GROUNDS DURING SCHOOL OR AT AFTER SCHOOL EVENTS - INCLUDING SPORTS PRACTICES OR GAMES

As a reminder, for the safety of our students, staff, and visitors, dogs are not allowed on school grounds between the hours of 7:00 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. when school is in session OR at any time that school events - including sports practices and games - are taking place.

PLEASE DO NOT BRING ITEMS CONTAINING NUTS OR NUT PRODUCTS INTO ANY AREA OF THE BUILDING

Please remember that BHMS IS AN ENTIRELY NUT-RESTRICTED BUILDING, 24-HOURS A DAY, SEVEN DAYS A WEEK. There are students in the building who are highly allergic to peanuts and all kinds of tree nuts, and their well-being is of concern.

Students should not bring lunch or snacks containing nuts or nut products. Additionally, while your donations and gifts are very much appreciated, we ask that you make sure anything given to the office, to teachers or classrooms, for bake sales, end-of-sports or club parties or any other occasion are free of all nuts and nut products. Thank you so much for your consideration.
