EAT SUBS, SUPPORT BHMS

Now through November 5, you can get a sub for a couple of dollars and support BHMS at the same time! BHMS is teaming up with Jersey Mike's Subs at 6450 Telegraph Road (just north of Maple, on the west side of Telegraph -- NOT the location near Square Lake Road). Each BHMS student and staff member received two donation cards this week. Each card, along with a minimum $2 donation, will get you a sub at that location only. 100% of all donations will be given back to BHMS. Enjoy a delicious sub, and thank you for supporting BHMS.

As always, we ask that you please contact a coach directly regarding his/her particular sport.

For retakes: Students should return their entire original photo package to the photographer at the time of retakes.

For first-time photos (students who missed picture day): Students should bring a completed order form and payment to give to the photographer, or you can order and pay in advance online, using Picture Day ID LM727122Y1 on the Lifetouch Website.

8TH GRADE WASHINGTON, DC TRIP WAITING LIST OPEN

The two reserved buses for the April, 2018, 8th grade Washington, DC, field trip are at maximum capacity. However, with only 20 additional students, a third bus can be added. If your 8th grader has not signed up and would like to participate in the trip, please get their name on the waiting list right away by calling Corporate Travel at 313-565-8888, ext. 185. You will need to provide your 8th grader's name, your name and a contact phone number or email address. If there is sufficient interest and a third bus is added, you will receive notification on how to register your student online for the trip. For complete details of the trip, including dates, costs and a complete itinerary, please review this presentation from the parent meeting in October, or this Corporate Travel flyer

PTO MEMBERSHIP DIRECTORY NOW ONLINE

The 2017-2018 BHMS PTO online School Directory is now available to PTO members. Returning directory users, click here for the online directory.  Continue to use the same email address and login as you used last year.  Click on "Forgot Password?" if needed. If you're new to the directory this year, you received an email with a temporary password to access the online directory.   If you haven't received that email, please email Sue Brodsky at suebrodsky@comcast.net. If for some reason, you are not in the directory and would like to be, please click here and enter the code LancerDirectory. You can still support the PTO by joining, which will give you access to the online directory.  Please click on this link to join. The system will let you add your own information. Get the mobile app too! Look for myschoolanywhere in the app store.

EXTENDED LEAVE / VACATION FORM REQUIRED FOR THREE OR MORE DAYS OUT OF SCHOOL

If your child will be missing three or more days of school, please have them pick up an Extended Leave Form from the BHMS office. The form should be completed at least two weeks in advance of the leave. This form is to be signed by the parent, and then your student will take the form to all teachers - block teachers and "A" and "B" day elective teachers. Once all teachers have signed off on the form, it should be returned to Mrs. Foronato in the office.

CORRECT ATTENDANCE PHONE LINE

In order to report absences, late arrivals, request early dismissal or a bus pass, or to get a school-related message to your child on a timely basis, you must call the attendance line directly at 248-341-6010.  Calling 248-341-6010 will get you to a recorded line. Messages on that line are checked on a regular basis throughout the school day. Leaving a message on any other line may result in the message not being retrieved or passed on to your student on a timely basis. Please program the 248-341-6010 attendance line phone number on to your phone and use only that line for the above purposes. Thank you.

CANDY DRIVE A SUCCESS

Thank you to all who donated leftover Halloween candy for Operation Gratitude. The candy drive has ended, and the BHMS Be the Change Club members are delivering the candy to a local location. It will then be sent on to our soldiers overseas. Kudos to Mrs. Kucinski and the Be the Change Club members for coordinating the drive.

MUSIC BOOSTERS NEWS

VOLUNTEERS NEEDED FOR MUSIC BOOSTERS BAKE SALES: BHMS Music Boosters is in need of bakers and sellers for after school bake sales. Sellers volunteer on Wednesdays from 2:45-3:15 p.m., in the Gateway area. Bakers are asked to bring in two dozen individual pieces, which must be entirely free of nuts or nut products/by products. If purchasing baked goods, please check that they are also from a nut-free facility. Baked goods can be dropped off in the office any time during your scheduled bake sale day. Click here to volunteer to bake or sell on assigned dates. If you have questions, or if you can't make the day on which you volunteered, please contact Patty Shaw.

FIFTH GRADE FAMILIES - SAVE THE DATE

Save the Date! The BHMS PTO invites fifth grade students, their siblings, and parents to a Movie Night and Meet-n-Greet at BHMS on Friday, December 8, from 6:15 until 8:45 p.m. Fifth-grade students and their siblings can enjoy an age-appropriate movie (with an intermission/play-break) and nut-free snacks and healthy drinks, while parents can meet each other, nosh a bit, and have a little fun themselves. More details will follow. E-mail Renu Zaretsky (parent of a fifth- and seventh-grader) at renu.zaretsky@gmail.com for more information or to find out how to help.

A SUGGESTION FROM THE BHMS BE THE CHANGE CLUB

The water boil advisory is now over for Bloomfield Township and other local areas.  What are you going to do with all of that extra bottled water? Well, the BHMS Be the Change Club is hard at work always trying to help others! Flint, Michigan doesn't have clean sources of water. If your extra water isn't needed anymore, here are some places accepting water in Flint:

  • Community schools in Flint accept donations of bottled water. If interested, call (810) 760-1310

  • Catholic Charities of Genesee County take cases of water as well. If planning on donating, you can call (810) 232-9950 . They are located at 901 Chippewa St, Flint, MI 48503

  • Food Bank of Eastern Michigan takes cases of water of over 100. Their number is (810) 239-4441 and is located at 2300 Lapeer Rd, Flint, MI 48503

Donating water to Flint will help put leftover water into the hands of families who need them.  Help us to BE THE CHANGE!

YEARBOOK PHOTOS NEEDED

You can now upload pictures for consideration for use in the yearbook! Mrs. Iacobelli, our Yearbook Coordinator, is using an app/website this year to help streamline the process. Click Here to access the site. When registering, make sure to choose Bloomfield Hills Middle School as your home school. Pictures of sporting events and extracurricular activities are especially welcome.

PLEASE SEND IN YOUR BOX TOPS FOR EDUCATION

There is a Box Tops collection bin in the main office. Please send in any you've been collecting. REMEMBER . . . each Box Top is worth ten cents to BHMS -- but worth nothing if you toss them in your waste basket. The math is simply amazing. If each of our 750 students brought in 10 box tops each month, for the nine months of the school year, BHMS would earn $6,750 to use toward programs or purchases not covered under the budget.

Thanks for supporting BHMS in small ways that can have big results. For more information about products that contain Box Tops, click HERE.

SHOP AT KROGER AND SUPPORT BHMS

You can support BHMS when you do your regular shopping at Kroger by designating Bloomfield Hills Middle School as your Plus Card Community Rewards program recipient. The Kroger website provides instructions for setting up a new account, or for designating Bloomfield Hills Middle School (Organization Code 28755) to your existing account.

Once you've designated BHMS as your organization, each time you shop at Kroger and use your Plus Card, BHMS earns reward points, which translate into checks paid to BHMS quarterly. That's all there is to it!

Test of the Emergency Mass Notification System (11/5/17)

Families and Staff: On Sunday, November 5, 2017, Bloomfield Hills Schools will issue two tests of our Mass Notification System around noon.  The first test will be for "Emergency Alerts", which are notifications that would be issued in the event of a daytime emergency (example: early release due to power failure).  This notification will be issued to families of students only, as staff will not receive daytime emergency alerts in most situations.

The second test will be for "After Hours Emergency Alerts", which are notifications that would be issued in the event of an emergency outside of the school day (example: Snow Day Notice).  This second notification will be issued to both families and staff.

Families: If you wish to modify your contact information or notification preferences before or after the test call, please use the instructions on our website: www.bloomfield.org/EmergencyMassMessaging

Staff: If, for whatever reason, you do not receive the single test call on Sunday, November 5, please send an email to communications@bloomfield.org.

Thank you for your cooperation and support.

PLEASE DO NOT BRING ITEMS CONTAINING NUTS OR NUT PRODUCTS INTO ANY AREA OF THE BUILDING

Please remember that BHMS IS AN ENTIRELY NUT-RESTRICTED BUILDING, 24-HOURS A DAY, SEVEN DAYS A WEEK. There are students in the building who are highly allergic to peanuts and all kinds of tree nuts, and their well-being is of concern.

Students should not bring lunch or snacks containing nuts or nut products. Additionally, while your donations and gifts are very much appreciated, we ask that you make sure anything given to the office, to teachers or classrooms, for bake sales, end-of-sports or club parties or any other occasion are free of all nuts and nut products. Thank you so much for your consideration.
