Gingerbread Wishes for the Barton Farmhouse Print
Image Last July, as Bloomfield’s Barton Farmhouse was saved from demolition and relocated to new surroundings on the Charles L. Bowers Farm, the organization that worked so hard to save the historic home knew their work was just beginning.

The years and the move itself have taken their toll on the 175-year old structure, and restoration is estimated to cost approximately $375,000. To kick off the restoration phase of the project, Friends of Preservation Bloomfield is planning a Gingerbread Brunch at 10 a.m. on Dec. 11 at Oakland Hills Country Club.

This homespun but elegant event will feature nationally-renowned gingerbread artist Donna Rorabaugh, who will provide a live instructional demonstration of gingerbread house artistry and techniques. In addition, area chefs and business owners are preparing gingerbread houses for a competition and silent auction at the event. Gingerbread house kits and other seasonal items will be available for purchase, and seasonal entertainment will be provided by pianist and Bloomfield resident Sam Salloum.

Tickets at $50 and $75 for the Gingerbread Brunch may be purchased by contacting Judy Anderson at 248-646-9373, or by email at This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it Attire is to be holiday/casual, no denim.

Donations to support restoration of the farmhouse can be made to Preservation Bloomfield, P.O. Box 332, Bloomfield Hills, Michigan 48303, or by calling 248-594-0692.
