  • East Hills is Making a Difference!

    Posted October 9, 2014

Each year, Bloomfield Hills Schools partners with a charity or non-profit organization to help make a difference in our community. This year's Make a Difference Day will be on Saturday, October 25 and will support The Greening of Detroit. We will be raising money throughout the week of October 20 – 24, and on Saturday, October 25, we invite all students and families to join us planting trees in Detroit.

Important Information for 8th Graders - We have 30 spots available for eighth graders interested in riding a district bus to the event (parent chaperones provided). The cost to ride the bus is $5.00. Interested students must turn in a district permission slip along with their $5.00 by Friday, October 17. Eighth-grade teachers will be sharing information about the service opportunity beginning next week on Monday, October 13. Bus pick up for East Hills Middle School will be at 7:30 AM at the top drop off loop. The bus will return to EHMS at approximately 1:00 PM. Spots are limited and you will be notified if you will be participating . . . permission slips will be required for student attendance!

Note: If we don't have enough 8th graders to fill our 30 spots on the bus, we will open up the bus spots to 7th graders and then 6th graders.

Important Information for 5th - 7th Graders – Fifth, sixth, and seventh graders must find their own transportation to and from the event and they must bring a supervising adult. Students should arrive by 9:00 AM at McKenny Elementary in Detroit (see address below). The event will end at noon. If your student intends to participate, please register them using the sign-up genius link below and scroll down to the East Hills 5th - 7th graders section.

    Important Dates:
October 20 - 24 - "Green for Green" Campaign - Donations will be accepted all week through the grade level classrooms. The grade that raises the most money will earn a treat from the EHMS office staff.

Thursday, October 23 - Wear Green for Green - Each student that wears green will have $1 or 1 point added to their grade's fundraising total. This will also be the kickoff Green Day for our Red Ribbon Week (see more information below about Red Ribbon Week).

Saturday, October 25 - Make a Difference Day - Roll up your sleeves and come join us plant trees! Everyone is encouraged to bring their own work gloves.

Attention East Hills Middle School Community! We wish to notify you of an important change. From this point on, virtually all of our email communication with you will be through our SchoolMessenger system. SchoolMessenger is taking the place of “Listserv". It is still important for you to be on the Listserv for our weekly e-newsletter, but all other communication will occur via SchoolMessenger, including text messages and telephone calls. Some of you have already activated your account. If that is the case, follow the directions on our website to make account changes: http://www.bloomfield.org/webconnect/schoolmessenger/index.aspx For those who have not yet activated an account, your activation instructions and codes are available in the main office. These codes expire December 9, 2014. If you do not activate by that time, you will not have another opportunity to activate your account until fall 2015. The activation process takes approximately five minutes.
