Three WBFH Radio Students Win Top Three Places in County-wide PSA Contest
Bloomfield Hills School District radio broadcasting students won 1st, 2nd and 3rd places in a contest for Oakland County high school students to write a Public Service Announcement for the 2010 Census. Sponsored by the League of Women Voters Oakland Area, the contest was open to all public, private, parochial and home-schooled students who attend or reside in Oakland County.
In the Radio Category, Lahser senior Chad Shepard won 1st Place and a $250 cash prize. Lahser senior Patrick Garretson won 2nd Place and a $100 cash prize. Andover senior Kevin Furlong won 3rd Place and a $50 cash prize. In the Television Category, Lahser senior Nicole Pentis won 1st Place for her PSA and a $250 cash prize. WBFH Station Manager Pete Bowers was recognized as faculty advisor for the radio students.
The awards were presented by LWVOA PSA Committee Chairperson Sheryl L. Mitchell at the Bloomfield Township Public Library on February 23, 2010.
The theme of the contest is the importance of participating in the 2010 Census. Entries were judged on creativity, originality, clarity, motivational message and the use of theme. The winning entries from each category will run on local TV and radio stations.
