Boys Basketball: The Black Hawks boys basketball team started the season off with a win on Tuesday, December 5, against Plymouth Christian High School. The game was back and forth for three and a half quarters. In the middle of the fourth quarter, the Black Hawks pulled away and recorded a 59-48 victory.
The team was led by senior shooting guard Tyler Canfield who dropped 28 points, including six three pointers. Senior center, Grant Ellis, scored 9 points and came away with some tough rebounds. Dean Hysni contributed with 8 points and played strong defense throughout the game. Joe Hecker battled inside and finished with 6 points, while Ben Mutz chipped in with 5 points.
Congratulations to Coach Kurajian (recently featured by Hometown Life) on his first win as the Black Hawks varsity basketball coach. The Black Hawks resume action away on Tuesday, December 12, against Cass Techincal High School at 5:30 p.m.
Boys Hockey: The varsity boys hockey team had an outstanding weekend, bringing home three wins! Come out and cheer on the Black Hawks as they get ready to take the ice at home (Rink C, Detroit State Club) at 5:45 p.m. on Thursday, December 7, vs Clarkston (featuring Chuck-A-Puck) and away at Royal Oak (John Lindell Ice Arena) at 7 p.m. on Saturday, December 9.
The varsity and JV boys hockey teams are also working to support Gleaners Food Bank with a canned food drive between December 5 - December 15. Bring food (cereal, canned vegetables low sodium, canned fruit not in syrup, noodles, peanut butter, or granola bars) to the game on Thursday, December 7, or make a donation in one of the boxes near the main entrance at BHHS.
