Bloomfield Hills Middle School, home of the Lancers, sits on a 25-acre site at Quarton and Wing Lake roads. BHMS was named a National School of Excellence and has received State of Michigan Summary Accreditation. Bloomfield Hills Middle School enjoys a climate of motivated, high achieving students; dedicated, caring and highly competent staff; and involved, positive, supportive parents.
The teacher-student relationship is at the core of the instructional process. Teachers provide guidance for energetic, spirited students in the middle school years to actively participate in learning. Many staff members devote additional time to clubs, activities, coaching, and providing the caring environment that consistently creates special and cherished memories for students and their families.
Students are placed on academic teams called "blocks." In these block classes, students experience learning activities in the areas of math, science, social studies, and language arts. Block teachers plan and integrate instruction for students during their team planning periods. During this time, teachers also contact and communicate with parents, administration, and support staff.
In addition to block classes, exploratory classes are offered in areas such as foreign language, practical and fine arts, music, health, physical education and technology. The media center, the hub and heartbeat of the school, is equipped with computers that provide online catalogs and services for up-to-the-minute research. Media center staff work closely with classroom teachers to provide contemporary learning materials. In addition, two instructional computer labs are available for student use. Each classroom has a teacher "workstation" with Internet access.
Parents are strong supporters of BHMS and play an active role as volunteers in sharing their time and talents to support the BHMS community. The Parent Teacher Organization sponsors Coffee and Conversation with the principal, fun nights, and fun activities for parents and students.
Academics, athletics, before and after school activities, and strong parental and community support create an exciting, challenging experience for students and staff. We invite you to visit and experience the warmth and camaraderie of BHMS.
