Administration Welcome

Bloomfield Hills Middle School, Michigan, Associate Principal

Dear Bloomfield Hills Middle School Community, I want to extend to you and your family a very warm welcome to Bloomfield Hills Middle School. The middle years are an exciting time when children embark upon new adventures in the world of learning. Each year will provide important transitions and the acquisition of new skills that will enhance each student's ability to apply learning in many ways. Bloomfield Hills Middle School is committed to providing a challenging and rigorous curriculum that helps each student progress at a developmentally appropriate rate and provides a safe environment for all students. Maintaining each child's self-esteem and building a secure foundation for future growth is our biggest priority.

At Bloomfield Hills Middle School, we strive to create a positive learning environment for all of our Lancers. Our school actively implements a school-wide system of positive behavioral interventions and supports (PBIS) as a way to teach character development. Our school successfully implements programs each year to build a broader understanding of what it takes to be a respectful, responsible and safe individual. Creating and maintaining a positive environment at BHMS is always a central focus.

As a former elementary and middle school teacher, I value the social and emotional development of each child as they transition from their primary years through early adolescence. I value life-long learning and aim to make your child's learning experience at Bloomfield Hills Middle School engaging and exciting. As an International Baccalaureate (IB) School we are also dedicated to the establishment of a school-wide environment which supports each student's academic, social, and physical needs through a rigorous program of study. With a wide range of Unified Arts courses, utilization of the latest technology, and a wide variety of sports, clubs and activities, I am confident BHMS will provide an enriching experience for every learner.

On behalf of the entire school staff, again let me welcome you to Bloomfield Hills Middle School. We are excited about working with your children and thank you for trusting us with their education. BHMS is a place of joyful learning, and I hope that your child finds enormous satisfaction and growth with us during middle school. I invite you to call or visit with me any time that you have a question regarding your child's progress in school.

Yours sincerely,

Randy English
Principal

Dear Parents and Community Members,

In my twelve years here at Bloomfield Middle, I have watched many amazing students walk into our doors and during their time here with us, there are a couple of things that can make a difference as to what kind of student and person they become as they leave our building for high school. Besides academic success, the students who do well in high school and beyond are the students who get INVOLVED in the co-curricular activities like clubs and sports. Here at BHMS, there literally is something for everyone. Your child might find his or her niche in Forensics, Animal Advocates, MATHCOUNTS, football, soccer, swimming or drama – just to name a few. Involvement in extra-curricular activities transfers over to success in the classroom!

Something we are extremely proud of here at BH is our school climate and culture. We all know that teenagers and pre-teens make mistakes, but for the most part, our students are kind and respectful to one another and to the adults in the school. We always hear about the kids who tease, name-call or argue, but if you came through the hallways and classrooms of our school, you would also see students who encourage one another, help those in need and help us, the adults, to keep the school a safe and comfortable place to learn.

A program I am particularly proud of is our WEB program. WEB stands for "Where Everyone Belongs." In WEB, seventh graders are selected to act as leaders and mentors to younger students during their eighth grade year. Our WEB Ambassadors, as they are called, get leadership training from faculty members and myself who are part of this national organization. Our eighth grade ambassadors plan and implement a special orientation for incoming fifth graders that takes place prior to the beginning of the school year. Then, after the year gets underway, WEB Ambassadors check in with their fifth graders at special events over the course of the year. Sometimes, the ambassadors eat lunch or have social activities with the fifth graders, and other times, they check on how the fifth graders are doing academically. WEB helps fifth graders acclimate to the building and provides them with positive eighth grade role models to look up to.

We know that your child will be affected by the climate and culture at Bloomfield Hills Middle School, which is why we make positive school culture such a priority. Contact us if you want to see for yourself, or talk with any of our students and parents!
