Dear Families of Students with Disabilities,
As educators, we are all aware of the challenges the spring shutdown brought many of the students, as well as parents and staff. After hearing the experiences from students, teachers, other special education administrators and all of you, we are committed to remaining focused on what is best for students. To that end, we need to ensure that we are providing the best instructional opportunities for our students while keeping health and safety as our priority.
Coming off the heels of the Board of Education meeting where the decision was made to move the district to remote learning, our department has been tasked with putting together a plan for potential face to face services for students with IEPs. Our proposed plan will be presented at the Board of Education meeting on August 20th, 2020.
We are working rigorously to develop a robust plan of support and services to meet the needs of our students. If you are seriously considering Bloomfield Virtual but you are still undecided, we would encourage you to move forward with enrollment by the August 18th deadline. If, after we present our plan, you feel those options may be a better fit for your child, we will consider exceptions to opt out on an individual basis.
We openly acknowledge that we do not have all the answers but please know that we continue to work diligently to best support our most vulnerable students given these unique circumstances in education. We appreciate your advocacy for your children and your willingness to to continue to partner and collaborate with us to navigate these challenging times.
