Board of Education
The seven elected trustees of the Bloomfield Hills Schools Board of Education are dedicated to the success of all students and are guided by the district’s Vision and Mission Statement, its Portrait of a Learner, and its Strategic Plan. Each year, the board works in conjunction with the superintendent to establish Annual Goals that align with these guiding principles and support continuous improvement. School board trustees are elected by the residents of the district during November elections held in even-numbered years.
Board members work collaboratively to achieve these Annual Goals, hire and evaluate the superintendent, develop and monitor district policies, and oversee the district’s financial operations. They are not involved in the day-to-day management of the district, which is the responsibility of the superintendent and administrative team.
The board conducts its work in partnership with the superintendent and cabinet, operating both as a full board and through smaller committees. Leadership is provided by four officer positions (president, vice president, secretary, and treasurer), who are elected each January. All meetings are open to the public and include time for community input.
The board is committed to transparency and effective communication with all stakeholders. Trustees actively participate in district and community events and are involved in a variety of local organizations. All Board of Education meeting notices are posted in accordance with the Open Meetings Act. Board of Education meeting agendas are made available to the public at least 24 hours prior to each scheduled meeting, and include an opportunity for public comment. Community members may also contact trustees via email at board@bloomfield.org.
