BHHS Alum Dylan Young Shines as Trombone Player in UM Marching Band, Performing at the Big 10 Championship, Rose Bowl, and National Championship

Dylan Young, a graduate of Bloomfield Hills High School Class of 2022, attends the University of Michigan, and was thrilled to perform as a trombone player with the UM Marching Band this past year, taking part in a total of five football performances including the Big 10 Championship, the Rose Bowl, and the National Championship.

Young explained that marching band students “have to audition for each game. These are known as challenges. The challenge consists of a pregame portion and a halftime portion, which is known as a diamond drill. Generally, it can get fairly competitive. This is just to be on the field for the game. Everyone plays in the stands, and there are two halftime shows where there is no challenge and everyone is in.”

Young added, “My personal highlight of being in the band last year was winning the Rose Bowl in overtime.” Young is majoring in political science, and recently completed a summer internship in Dublin with the Trinity Economics Department.
