BHHS Student Athlete Shines at International Baton Twirling Competition

Bloomfield Hills Black Hawk Jax Scott (grade 11) won three Gold medals in Level A Junior 2-Baton, 3-Baton, and Artistic Twirl at the 2025 Nations Cup, a prestigious international competition held this past August in Turin, Italy. More than 2,200 athletes from 22 countries competed in the Nations Cup, which was sanctioned by the International Baton Twirling Federation (IBTF) and supported by the United States Twirling Association (USTA). This was Scott’s second appearance with Team USA at the Nations Cup. The Nations Cup was held just a month after the U.S. National Baton Twirling Championships, where Scott took second place in the Men's Junior Solo Championship.

Scott is currently a member of the BHHS marching band as a feature twirler and also participates in cross country and track. Juggling these activities, along with school and the sport of twirling is intense. Scott practices several hours per day and competes in five to nine competitions per year, traveling around the world. The athlete described the personal growth learned by overcoming these obstacles, “[The sport] influenced my growth by expressing my emotions in a routine and showing my feelings while competing. It's taught me how to breathe through things even though it's tough; you have to push through to get to the goal you've always wanted.”

BHHS Marching Band Director, Alan Posner, appreciates Jax’s dedication. Posner remarked, “Jax is a terrific student, and I have really enjoyed working with him. He is incredibly skilled, driven, dedicated, and talented. He is also incredibly humble and a real team player.” Jennifer Neumann, Scott’s mother, believes baton twirling has been a profoundly positive experience in Scott’s life, “Baton twirling has given him the opportunity to travel, compete, and experience amazing adventures in new places. Along the way, he has built lasting friendships with twirlers from across the country. The sport has not only brought people together; it has also introduced him to different cultures.” Scott’s future plans include attending a major university, potentially as a twirler, and/or as a track athlete. Bloomfield Hills Schools is proud to call Jax Scott a Black Hawk!
