Biffstock Rocks Their Goal!

Did you know BHS has its own radio station? WBFH, the Biff, began broadcasting on October 1, 1976 and has been spinning tunes ever since. Annually, the station holds a fundraising broadcast marathon, Biffstock, which spans 24 hours. This year's fundraiser began on Friday, April 4, when students started live broadcasting on 88.1 FM at 7:00 AM. They talked and selected music through the day and into the night, ending at 7:00 AM Saturday, April 5. Evie Keough (grade 9) explained, “It’s very meaningful to us. This is the only event where students stay overnight, which I really like, and it’s really fun and does a lot for [the radio station].”

To engage students in the fun of Biffstock, broadcast students set up a tent in the main commons where they played music, broadcasted on air, and hosted a new fundraiser: Tape Your Principal to the Wall! Throughout the two student lunches, students and staff eagerly donated a dollar or more for a strip of duct tape. They used these strips to literally stick Dr. Hartley to the wall! Dr. Hartley was a willing volunteer and a good sport, even “hanging out” on the wall during the 30 minutes between lunches. During this process, Dr. Hartley stood on a box, but when the taping was done and the box was pulled out, it showed just how much tape it takes to attach an administrator to a wall. Students had a great time with the fundraiser and especially enjoyed taking selfies with Dr. Hartley. Everyone cheered when their principal was finally unstuck! 

Another anticipated event raising funds for the Biff was the talent show. Students signed up to show off their talent and donated $5 per act for the opportunity. Teachers had the choice to sign up to bring their classes as the audience. Biff radio students chose four teachers to judge the event and the talent winner received half of the proceeds. The audience whooped and clapped for the talented acts and chose their favorites. 

This year’s goal was to raise $5,000. Biffstock surpassed their goal by raising over $7,000! Donations are still being accepted, to donate to Biff radio, visit their web page at https://wbfh.fm/.
