The Biff Wins Coveted Award

The Biff Wins Coveted Award

On March 26, 2026, the Michigan Association of Broadcasters held its Michigan Student Broadcast Awards in Lansing, MI. WBFH The Biff proudly won several awards, including High School Audio Station of the Year. This honor is determined by the number and placement of individual awards. Biff staffers outshone every other program in the competition to receive the coveted prize.

The Biff radio station has been operating since the 1970s; however, BHHS teacher Danielle Tier only took over teaching and running the program a few years ago. Tier teaches students to find their radio personalities. “Finding your broadcasting voice is a lot like finding the perfect song… it takes some searching, a few misses, and a whole lot of practice. Our students dive into a wide variety of assignments throughout the year that challenge their creativity and sharpen their skills. The real magic happens during their live weekly two-hour radio show, where they have full creative control over content and style. There's no better teacher than the ‘On Air’ light and a live audience,” said Tier.

Manager of radio operations Ron Wittebols commented, “I am immensely proud of what Danielle Tier has done to keep the spirit of The Biff alive, all the while carrying a full teaching load, planning station events, teaching media fundamentals (radio and television), and becoming involved with the Michigan Association of Broadcasters Foundation.” Tier acknowledged that the heartbeat of any great station is its people, “This year's staff made the station a place where people genuinely want to be. The collaboration, the camaraderie, the way they showed up for each other on productions and events - that's the kind of thing no trophy can fully capture, but it's what makes everything else possible.”

Recruiting the next generation of broadcasters is a top priority for the Biff. A bigger staff means bigger dreams: live sports coverage, community event broadcasts, and programming to put BHS on the map. Tier wants students to know, “The door to the station is wide open. Start with Introduction to Broadcasting (open to grades 9–12), and from there you can branch into TV production through Digital Narratives and Productions, or jump straight into the WBFH Radio Staff class. Come make some noise with us!”

Biffstock, the station’s annual fundraiser, is May 1st! Families can donate at wbfh.fm/give, or send cash or check directly to the station. Every dollar keeps the music playing!
