Tri-City Concert: Black Hawks Persevere

Tri-City Concert: Black Hawks Persevere

Bloomfield Hills High School hosted the annual “B3” tri-city concert, consisting of the highest level bands from Groves (Beverly Hills), Seaholm (Birmingham), and Bloomfield Hills High Schools. Directors Michael Burkett and Tim Cibor led their ensembles with enthusiasm, leaving audiences delighted after performing the well-rehearsed tunes that they intend to play for the MSBOA Festival the first week of March.

In the several years of performing this concert, however, something new and unexpected occurred: Seaholm’s Cibor stepped up to direct the BHHS Black Hawks due to Alan Posner’s unscheduled absence. “The students have to put their trust in me, and I have to put my trust in them,” Cibor explained, after he emphatically agreed to direct the Black Hawks with no prior rehearsal. Posner, the BHHS Symphony Band’s director, indicated to his ensemble that Cibor was perfectly familiar with their pieces, and that he was “a true maestro,” which in fact, he was. As the Black Hawks performed under brand new direction, it was clear that both parties persevered to create beautiful, harmonious music.

Good luck to all the bands, as well as the orchestras, as they continue to prepare for the 2026 MSBOA Festival, also to be held at BHHS, on March 5-6.
