Author Event: Summer Benton. Sunday, June 14, 2:30 p.m. – 3:15 p.m. Join us to listen to Summer Benton, author and illustrator of the popular early reader series Zilbo's Forest, share her newest picture book, The Fanciest Flower, and lead a fantastical drawing activity with kids after. Books will also be available for purchase and signing by Summer. No registration required.
Outdoor Family Story Time. Tuesday, June 16, 10:30 a.m. – 11:00 a.m. Join us outside for story time this summer on the Youth Services Terrace. Families can cozy up together for stories, songs, rhymes, movement, and more fun for all ages. In the case of inclement weather, Summer Story Time will be held in the Youth Story Room. This program will also be held on Monday, June 22, 2026, 10:30 a.m. – 11 a.m. No registration required for either program.
"Unearth a Story" Summer Reading Kickoff with Food Trucks. Thursday, June 18, 5:30 p.m. – 7:30 p.m. Join friends and neighbors of all ages at the library to kick off a summer of reading and discovery! Sign up for the Summer Reading Challenge, get crafty, play games, and join in activities. Visit the food trucks, 5–8 p.m., in the parking lot to purchase treats to enjoy on the terraces (or in the Community Room, in case of inclement weather). No registration required.
Summer Family Movie Marathon. Wednesday, June 24, 11 a.m. – 4:00 p.m.
Bring a blanket to cozy up at the library for themed movie marathons. Popcorn and water will be provided, and you may bring your own nut-free snacks. This month's theme is Prehistoric. No registration required.

DIA in the Neighborhood. Thursday, June 25, 5:15 p.m. – 6:15 p.m. Young art connoisseurs, ages 8 – 11, will work with a museum educator from the Detroit Institute of Arts, using critical thinking and observational skills to observe and engage with a high-quality reproduction of a work of art from the DIA. They will then work in teams to create a work of art in the style of the artist. Registration is required.
Butterfly Gardening. Tuesday, June 30, 2:00 p.m. – 3:00 p.m. Junior butterfly enthusiasts can learn more about the butterfly life cycle, the plants that attract and feed them, and more! Attendees will receive a plant to take home with them to start their own butterfly garden. For ages 7 – 10. Registration is required.
