BHS Board of Education Trustee Howard Baron Receives Highest MASB Award
Congratulations Howard Baron, Board of Education Trustee!
Howard Baron, a 10-year member of the Bloomfield Hills Board of Education, received the 2021 President's Award of Recognition from the Michigan Association of School Boards (MASB) at the Bloomfield Hills School Board meeting on August 24. This is the highest award offered by MASB.
To receive this award, Baron has completed 46 professional development classes and earned nearly 1,700 hours of advocacy and committee work over and above his regular BHS school board responsibilities. In 2021, of the over 4,000 elected school board trustees in the State of Michigan, only 5 attained this honor.
“I am so thankful to MASB for providing me the opportunity to learn and grow with my fellow school board members and to be able to advocate with our elected officials to create an equitable educational system in Michigan where all students can achieve high outcomes and be successful,” Baron said.
In 2012, after becoming very involved in the Bloomfield Hills Schools’ Community Partnership efforts, Mr. Baron was elected to the Bloomfield Hills School Board. There, he has worked on improving student achievement by focusing on educational equity, equitable school funding, and lobbying for public schools in Lansing and Washington, D.C. In the future, he aspires to bring his skills and leadership to Michigan’s State Board of Education.
