BHS Proudly Announces Presidential Scholar Semi-Finalists

Bloomfield Hills Schools is tremendously proud to congratulate Mayas Smith (BHHS) and William Zhang (IA) for advancing to the final round of the 2026 U.S. Presidential Scholars Program! It is a great honor and an exceptional accomplishment to have reached the semifinalist phase in this highly selective and prestigious program.

Established in 1964, the U.S. Presidential Scholars Program recognizes and honors the nation's most distinguished graduating high school seniors. The initial application to the program was by invitation only. A review committee experienced in secondary and post-secondary education evaluated thousands of candidates based on their academic achievement, personal characteristics, leadership and service activities, and analysis of their essay to determine the students who would move on to the next stage.

This year, 627 outstanding students were promoted to semifinalist. These students will undergo an additional review and evaluation process, then 161 finalists will be named Presidential Scholars, one of the nation's highest honors for high school students. Congratulations, Mayas and Will, on this outstanding achievement!
