BHS Students and Families Make a Difference!

BHS Students and Families Make a Difference!

On national Make A Difference Day, Saturday, October 26, over 120 student and parent volunteers took part in the Bloomfield Hills Schools Make A Difference Day initiative. At Bloomfield Hills High School, volunteers from every school across Bloomfield Hills Schools labeled and sorted several thousand books that had been donated by families. Hundreds of bookmarks were made at Saturday’s event, and in advance by Wing Lake students. The volunteers also created bookbags of extra books to be donated to each child at Whitman Elementary School in Pontiac. The community effort continues, with more book sorting and labeling to be completed - please sign up here to help!

In total, over $1,500 was donated to Read to a Child, and over 2,800 books were donated, with even more arriving from the Amazon wish list. The Schuler’s bookstore fundraiser is also continuing through this Saturday, November 2. 20% of your purchase from Schuler Books online and in store (Gateway Center Plaza: 7260 Orchard Lake Road, in West Bloomfield) will benefit Read to a Child if you mention Bloomfield Hills Schools when shopping. For online shoppers, please use coupon code READTOACHILD during checkout.

Special thanks to Make A Difference Day coordinator Kt Leung, who coordinated this immense effort to benefit Read to a Child and Whitman Elementary School. Thank you to Katie Wolf at Read To A Child, Whitman Elementary staff, Bloomfield Township Public Library, and Schuler’s bookstore. Also, many thanks to BHS students Sophia Alhimiri (grade 12), Summer Alhimiri (grade 11), Contessa Brandon (grade 11), Nikhil Gupta (grade 9), Erik Norsted (grade 9), Dominic Parry (grade 12), and Sloane Popov (grade 11). These students stayed until every last book was loaded!  Finally, a HUGE THANK YOU to BHS family members Emily Dolinski, Sally Walker, Stephanie Norsted, and Angie Hockey for their help at Whitman Elementary School prior to the event. It would not have been a success without them!
