Black Hawk Fever
Black Hawk Fever ignited school spirit for students of all ages as families cheered on three of Bloomfield Hills High School’s basketball teams on a brisk February night. The event, hosted by Bloomfield Hills Schools Athletics and the Bloomfield Athletic Boosters, encouraged elementary and middle school students to participate in fun games at the high school and to experience the excitement of watching teams compete.
The Black Hawk Unified Basketball team kicked off the event with an exciting game against the Hamtramck Cosmos Unified team. The score went back and forth until the very end of the game when the game ended in a celebratory tie! Sports announcer Jackie Osborn commented to the crowd, “You can see some real talent and sportsmanship out here!”
Next up, the Girls Varsity Basketball team pounded up and down the court, handily beating the Hamtramck girls team, 44-18. To end the night, the Black Hawk Boys Varsity team played the Southfield High School A & T Warriors, winning the game 69-45. Throughout the basketball games, the BHHS Dance teams performed and cheered. The dancers also helped welcome guests into the Athletic entrance to the school by lining Main Street.
Activities on Main Street and in the auxiliary gymnasium were highlights of the event, as athletic teams represented themselves with games, information, and giveaways. The first 200 guests to register for the event were treated to a pizza dinner and a Black Hawk t-shirt. Concessions were also available from different organizations raising money for their groups. A highly anticipated event that delighted fans of all ages was when the Varsity teams signed autographs on their photo roster posters.
