Bloomfield Hills Schools Welcomes New Students
Bloomfield Hills Schools welcomed many new students to the district this year! Each school greets new students in their own unique way.
Bloomfield Hills High School’s new-to-the-district students were invited to a special event on September 24. The event was a casual opportunity for new students to meet each other, the administration, counseling staff, resource officers, and other high school support individuals. Students were treated to fresh apple cider, donuts, and other snacks as they answered fun school trivia questions and got to know each other. Students were awarded Black Hawk merchandise and gift cards for their correct answers. BHHS Leadership students, Social Workers, Counselors, and Associate Principals encouraged students to get involved within the school community, such as joining a co-curricular club or team. Dr. Hartley emphasized the importance of building relationships and finding an adult in the building who the students can talk with, whether that trusted person is a counselor, teacher, or a support staff member.
South Hills Middle School welcomed 20 new students with a gathering prior to the start of school, held on August 20. Counselors guided the new students through icebreaker and get-to-know-you games, provided information about the school, gave the students a school tour, helped open lockers, and enjoyed a small snack. They played trivia games and provided Black Hawk t-shirts to the winners. Students left knowing they would have a great first day of school and a goodie bag of items prepared by South Hills Student Senate.
North Hills Middle School Counselors invited all of their new students to grade-level new student meetings and then met with each student individually, either during lunch or spare class time, to acclimate them to their new school. Counselors find these individual meetings beneficial as each student has a different level of need and assistance.
