On December 1, 2021, Bloomfield Hills School students, staff, friends, and community leaders gathered at the dedication ceremony for the Cynthia von Oeyen Center for Performing Arts at Bloomfield Hills High School. This recognition was made for von Oeyen’s outstanding advocacy and commitment to the students and families of Bloomfield Hills Schools, in combination with a lifelong passion for music and performing arts.
Cynthia von Oeyen began her career of volunteer service for Bloomfield Hills Schools in 1987 as founding Parent-Teacher Organization president of the Fox Hills Preschool. She was first elected to the Board of Education in 1998, where she continued to serve for more than 22 years, including four years as president. Her passionate advocacy for Bloomfield Hills Schools and all public schools was well known across Oakland County, as well as in Lansing and Washington, D.C. Her leadership and collaborative decision-making positively impacted the lives of thousands of students.
