Elementary Students Observe Hispanic Heritage Month
Hispanic Heritage Month runs September 15 through October 15 and presents an opportunity for students to learn about the rich history and culture of Hispanic people. Bloomfield Hills Schools Elementary Spanish teacher, Susan Farah, shared how each grade level will learn about Hispanic heritage.
Students in grades 1-2 will make connections to their own heritage(s), make books about Mexican holidays, read them to classmates, and learn to identify Spanish speaking countries on a map. Students in grades 3-5 will learn about the important contributions of remarkable Hispanic figures of the past and present. Grade 3 students will even get to have an exciting field trip to the Detroit Institute of Arts for further exploration of Hispanic artists.
Students are encouraged to explore topics on their own and with their families. Señora Farah offers activities you can view on this choice board: Celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month. Happy Hispanic Heritage Month!
