Enhancing Our Public Address System

Enhancing Our Public Address System

Thanks to the support of our community and the passage of Bond 2020, a new, state-of-the-art PA system has been installed across all schools. This system allows for emergency notifications and has positioned Bloomfield Hills Schools to lead the way in implementing the new Standard Response Protocol requirements. By also incorporating ALICE procedures, our district is at the forefront of meeting and exceeding the latest school safety legislation.

The PA system (emergency notification system) will broadcast both auditory and color coded visual notifications. The color coded visual notifications will correspond to what the SRP colors are:

  • Hold- Purple
  • Secure- Blue
  • ALICE/Lockdown- Red
  • Evacuate- Green
  • Shelter- Orange

This inclusive design will support our Deaf and Hard of Hearing students and staff, by providing an additional layer of access through color coded visual alerts along with the audible announcements. By having the color coded visual alerts with audible announcements, the new system ensures messages are clear and accessible to everyone on campus.

This Safety Week marks the first time Bloomfield Hills Schools will utilize the full emergency notification system connected to these upgraded PA systems. As part of our ongoing safety protocols, schools will conduct tornado drills throughout the week to ensure that students and staff are confident and prepared.

Thanks to the community’s investment in Bond 2020, Bloomfield Hills Schools continues to strengthen its safety infrastructure while setting a standard for inclusivity and innovation. Our district is proud to be among the first in Michigan to fully integrate these systems in alignment with SRP guidelines.
