Exciting update from the Bloomfield Schools Athletic Department

Bloomfield Hills Schools’ athletics department is happy to announce the addition of two new athletic lead roles designed to support middle school athletics! The names of the new coordinators may sound familiar as they are already valuable members of the BHS community. Mike Massucci, who teaches grade 8 social studies at North Hills, and is involved with high school sports teams, will support North Hills athletics, while Tony Midea, who is a BHHS counselor, and grade 9 football coach, will support South Hills athletics.

The introduction of designated athletic leads will play a crucial role in organizing and managing athletic programs at each middle school. Their responsibilities include:

  • Overseeing game supervision
  • Communicating with student-athletes and their families
  • Scheduling
  • Collaborating closely with coaches
  • Serving as the primary contact for families seeking information about middle school athletics
  • Being onsite for both practices and competitions, allowing for effective communication of information and prompt responses to any questions and concerns.

Chosen for their decades of experience in athletics, and many years of experience working within the BHS schools and community, Massucci and Midea will hit the field running! Athletic Director Mike Cowdrey expressed his enthusiasm, stating, “I am very excited for both Mr. Midea and Mr. Massucci to join the middle school team as athletic leads. I am certain that their experience, knowledge, and commitment will be noticeable immediately.” Cowdrey is confident that the lead positions will be a reliable resource for families and coaches, and will create a positive middle school experience leading to a smooth transition into high school athletics.

Please welcome Mike Massucci and Tony Midea to the athletic department team! They can be reached at mmassucci@bloomfield.org, and amidea@bloomfield.org.
