Students at the International Academy explored local history in response to the inaugural Bloomfield Historical Society's Essay Contest.
Wasey Rehman received the first place honor, the Michael Carmichael Award for local history writing. The award, named for the late, long-time editor of the Society's newsletter "Legacy", comes with a monetary prize. Rehman's essay "The Man Who Built Bloomfield: Judson Bradway" provides an amazing illustration of what a person is capable of accomplishing for the betterment of a community.
Brody Cavanaugh took second place with essay, "Hunter House: Before the Grills". Cavanaugh takes us back in time to 1818 when brothers John and Daniel Hunter became two of the first settlers in Bloomfield Township, and continues forward connecting their name to today's Hunter House restaurant.
Congratulations to Wasey and Brody for their wonderful works. The Bloomfield Historical Society looks forward to expanding its essay contest and to continuing the cultivation of interest in local history.
