May Athletic Highlights
Baseball
The Varsity Baseball team wound down May on a high note, winning 6 of their last 8 games. There were many great victories, but the top 3 include a 7- 4 win over South Lyon East, a 3 -1 win over Clarkston, and a 1 - 0 gem against U of D.
The 7- 4 was a classic pitched game between Josh Boike (grade 12), Ethan Franklin (grade 9) and Andrew Lumsden (grade 11). Lumsden capped off the win with a rare “immaculate” inning striking out the side on 9 pitches. The 3 - 1 victory was led by Brandon Newland (grade 12) throwing 6 innings and allowing 3 hits and 0 earned run ball. Lumsden closed down the 7th for the save. Of the 3 highlighted games, the U of D was a pre-district game in the making. U of D came in as the only team to beat Brother Rice this year. Behind the excellent pitching (complete game 4 hitter) by Newland and a complete team defensive gem, the Blackhawks prevailed 1-0.
For the month of May, hitters who have pounded the ball moving their averages up are Newland, Dominic Pascarella (grade 11), Jack Shaffer (grade 11), Blaine Cohen (grade 12), Kieran Crossley (grade 12), Sawyer Cooney (grade 11), and Thomas Najor (grade 11). Pitchers who have continued to shine or improve include Newland, Lumsden, Cooney, Boike, Anthony Agbay (grade 12), and Tyler Marx (grade 11). When given the chance, our speedster core of Newland, Franklin, and Evan Becker (grade 11) continue to steer bases.
The Blackhawks are anxious to welcome Brother Rice (36-1) for game one of districts. We hope many of these players' friends can attend and be the difference maker.

The BHHS Esports team has had an incredible month, as they transitioned from playing on the state-level to the national stage.
