Middle School Band Members Perform in MSBOA Honors Band
On Saturday, April 27, 2024, District IV of the Michigan School Band and Orchestra Association hosted the 18th Annual Middle School Honors Band Festival at Milford High School. The guest conductors were Ms. Andrea Mack of Manistee Area Public Schools and Mr. Albie Todd of Big Rapids Middle School. More than 200 students from 24 area middle schools participated in the event. Students spent the day rehearsing as a large ensemble in preparation for an evening concert. During the day, the students also attended a small concert by the Cass Quartet, which featured Bloomfield Hills High School band director, Alan Posner, on soprano saxophone.
Honors Band members were nominated by their directors and chosen based on student achievements, director comments, broad representation and instrumentation needs. Representing North Hills were: Kai Hillman (grade 8, tenor saxophone), Brynn Oberst (grade 8, trombone), Knox Papcsik (grade 8, trumpet), Gerry Socha (grade 8, percussion), and Anna Spence (grade 8, flute). Representing South Hills were: Logan Anderson (grade 7, clarinet), Maddie Baker (grade 8, trumpet), Grace Berakovich (grade 7, clarinet), Neil Campbell (grade 7, trombone), Nick Holowko (grade 8, clarinet), Annabelle Lotz (flute), Carter Phillips (grade 7, percussion), and Andrew Sovenyi (grade 8, baritone).
Thank you to band directors Rachel Lucas and Kendra Peterson for honing the skills of these students and supporting their musical endeavors.
