Mystery Reader at Bloomin' Preschools

Mystery readers are a popular school activity in which family members, friends, or special guests surprise a classroom by reading a book! Their identity is concealed until they walk through the door, building excitement and promoting a love of reading. Board of Education President, Tareq Falah, was recently a mystery reader at Bloomin’ East and Bloomin’ West! Reading one of his favorite books, “The Day the Crayons Quit”, Falah discussed colors, emotions, and creativity with the preschool students. Questions and comments from the preschoolers left Falah with an experience he will never forget. “I thought I enjoyed reading to kindergarten classes but THAT was fun,” commented Falah after leaving a GSRP class at Bloomin’ East. Falah also emphasized that, regardless of the path you choose in life, reading will always be essential, even in adulthood!

After Falah's visit, Ms. Opie's class at Bloomin' West had a moment to reflect on the story. Bloomin' West student, Kennedy Zukkoor, was inspired to replicate one of the pages in the book including the pink monster, orange sun, and a red car. During free choice time later in the day, Bloomin' West student, Hazel Lydick, was motivated to write her own book. After writing and illustrating, Lydick read the book to her fellow classmates.
