September Athletic Highlights
The Black Hawks Cross Country team traveled to three invitationals and a league competition. The team continues to improve in skills level and dropping times. Taye Levenson (grade 12) continued to impress and placed 1st in the first league competition and the Mott Fall Classic. Levenson’s time of 15:57 at Hess Hathaway Park is one of the best times ever at the course. Ryan Hunt (grade 11) and Gerry Socha (grade 9) continued to improve on the boys side.
On the girls side, Addi Herr (grade 11) placed 9th at the Averill Invitational, 4th at the MSU Auto Owners Spartan Invitational, and 2nd at the Mott Fall Classic. Olivia Jenney (grade 10) placed 20th at the MSU Auto Owners Spartan Invitational, and 8th at the Mott Fall Classic. The group of Sydney Lefief (grade 11), Olivia Carlson (grade 10), Savannah Astras (grade 9), and Layla Kallivayalil (grade 11) contribute to the team as they improve every meet!
The BHHS Dance teams (JV with 10 girls and Varsity with 12 girls) attended Universal Dance Association Camp, held their own four day training accelerator where the team trained in several areas: fitness, nutrition, choreography, team building, game day presentation, spirit leading, competition readiness, and much more. The Varsity Team performs at all Varsity Football games and the JV performs at select JV Football games. The team also participated at the Staff Welcome Back to School Event and the Homecoming Pep Rally! Looking ahead, you’ll see the teams at basketball games and at the Black Hawk Fever event and much more!
In addition to the games and events, Black Hawk dancers will compete at three very competitive regional competitions. Also NEW this year, be on the lookout for information about Youth Dance Clinics. Announcements and registration information coming soon!
The BHHS Equestrian team placed Reserve Champion in the Michigan Interscholastic Horsemanship Association District 2, B division. They will move ahead to the MIHA Region E Championships September 27th - 29th in Mason, MI.
The Freshman Football team consisting of 31 players is undefeated after four games with considerable wins over Anchor Bay 21-6, Seaholm 20-0, Seaholm 25-6 and North Farmington 45-6 and over 200 rushing yards in each game! With five games left in the season, coaches and fans are excited to see what this team accomplishes next!
The Varsity Girls Golf team participated in the OAA tournament placing fifth. Outstanding performance by team captain Avery Law (grade 12) who tied for 1st place individually with a score of 80. The girls placed 5th in the second OAA tournament with Avery finishing fourth overall with a score of 76. We are looking forward to more success at the Oakland County and regional tournaments later this month.
The Girls Swim & Dive team is off to a great start, as they are currently 1-1 OAA Red Division and 3-1 overall. They won the Black Hawk Invite for the 3rd consecutive year, placed 3rd at the Marlin Relays, and placed 2nd at the Rock Kilgore Invite. The team has several Oakland County and MISCA Meet qualifiers. Individual Event Qualifiers:
Bachmann – 200 Individual Medley, 100 Butterfly, 100 Backstroke
Robinson – 200 Freestyle, 50 Freestyle, 100 Butterfly, 100 and 500 Freestyle events
Varsity Volleyball beat West Bloomfield 3 sets to 1. They won against Rochester Adams 3 sets to 0 and are currently 2-0 in league play with a league match vs Stoney Creek this week. The team plays Detroit Country Day on Thursday; come cheer them on and wear your pink for Pink Out Awareness Night!
