Welcome New D/HH Team!

Welcome New D/HH Team!

As we celebrate deaf awareness month, Bloomfield Hills Schools is excited to welcome Emma Heisey & Tyler Heisey, to the Deaf and Hard of Hearing Department.

Emma, a Student Support & Resource Specialist, and Tyler, an ASL Specialist, both started with BHS at the end of August and will be working at Fox Hills Bloomin' Preschool, Eastover Elementary School, North Hills Middle School, and Bloomfield Hills High School with our D/HH community. They also happen to be married!

Emma graduated with a Masters in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Texas Tech University and is a licensed professional counselor associate, working on becoming a full LPC. After four years of experience in counseling support in the education system and non-profit organizations, Emma is excited to work with the D/HH program and provide them with awesome resources!

Emma is a native Michigander who just moved back to Michigan from Austin, TX after 20 years. Emma loves to read and explore cafes to try new delicious coffee! She also went skydiving in Cuba!

Tyler is originally from Maryland and graduated from Gallaudet University with a Masters in American Sign Language Education. He has taught ASL at public high schools and community colleges for four years. He is a die-hard Eagles football fan, loves exploring disc golf courses, and spending time with his wife.

Emma and Tyler share two dogs, Moose and Bix, and a cat, Halo.

As a Deaf adult, Emma hopes to be a role model for D/HH students in Bloomfield Hills at all levels and teach them how to advocate for themselves, and inspire them to thrive with no limits! Tyler hopes to make an immediate impact on students by teaching ASL and through his own experiences as a Deaf person. He believes in the importance of D/HH students engaging with their peers and continuously exploring new resources for families to learn ASL/Deaf culture.
