Vanessa Ivy Rose: Author and Podcast Creator

Bloomfield Hills High School’s Vanessa Ivy Rose, a teacher within the Language Arts department, has recently published both a book and a podcast! The granddaughter of baseball legend Norman “Turkey” Stearnes, Rose published Hall of Fame DNA: The Legacy of Norman "Turkey" Stearnes. Rose also hosted a podcast for ABC News called Reclaimed: The Forgotten League. Click here to listen to the podcast, or here to read about Rose’s family story and legacy on ABC news. The podcast, which recently dropped its first installment featuring Rose as the host, is a six-part series that explores the history of the Negro Leagues.

Rose shares, “As an educator, I am beyond honored to share the story of the Negro Leaguers because it is essential to the story of American History. Having been a collegiate athlete and a basketball coach, I'm excited for sports enthusiasts to learn more about a story that has been hidden for so long but has a direct connection to sports today. Regardless of the entry point for the listener, I think everyone can walk away from this podcast with a deeper understanding of how our past informs the present and how to make this world better.”
