The January 27, 2025 Board of Education Meeting Staff Recap: 

• The Organization of the Board portion of the meeting included: 
  • Oath of Office Ceremony: Martin Brook, Bloomfield Township Clerk, ceremoniously administered the oath of office to the following newly and re-elected trustees (serving a four year term effective January 1, 2025 - December 31, 2028): 
    • Jason Abel
    • Lindsay Baker, Ph.D.
    • Michelle Southward, Ed.D.
  • Board of Education Election of Officers: 
    • Tareq Falah was elected as the Vice-President
    • Meagan Hill was elected as the President 
    • Paul Kolin was elected as the Treasurer 
    • Carolyn Noble was elected as the Secretary 
  • Board of Education Committee, Liaison, and Representative Appointments: The Board of Education made a motion to move this discussion to the February 24, 2025 Board of Education meeting. 
  • Board of Education Committee Dates: The Board of Education made a motion to move this discussion to the February 24, 2025 Board of Education meeting. 
  • Board of Education Meeting Dates: The Board of Education approved the schedule of regular meetings beginning July 1, 2025 through June 30, 2026, as presented.

• The Administrative Appointments portion of the meeting included: 
  • The Board of Education appointed Dr. Robert Phelps as the Director of Curriculum for Bloomfield Hills Schools, with an effective date of January 27, 2025. 

• The Special Recognition portion of the meeting included: 
  • Celebrating Success, Tri-County High School Art Exhibition Awards: 
    • Bloomfield Hills High School students are being recognized for having their artwork selected: Roman Bahri, Sage Booth, Renee Charnesky, Jordyn Goldstein, Leah Goldstein, Magnus Jurtz, Anna Kohl, Birdie Parker, Dylan Psenka, Andrew Siu, and Kina Wack.
    • Bloomfield Hills High School art teacher and visual arts department chair, Matthew Beauchamp, is being recognized for winning the Teacher Award.
  • National School Board Recognition Month / Board Member Appreciation: Superintendent Rick West and the PTOC recognized the BHS Board of Education trustees for their combined twenty years of service on the BHS Board of Education.

• The following reports were provided: 
  • Superintendent Rick West provided a Superintendent's Report. 
  • Board of Education President Meagan Hill provided a Board President’s Report. 
  • Board Interns Adeline Sherman and Ayah Maskoun provided the Board Intern and Student Advisory Committee Report. 

• The Board of Education approved all Consent Agenda items. 

• The board business portion of the meeting included: 
  • The Board of Education approved Bid Package 12 - Lone Pine Elementary Front Entrance Site Work in the amount of $365,310.00, inclusive of 10% contingency, to be paid from the 2020 Bond Fund, as presented.
  • The Board of Education approved Bid Package T8 - Technology Systems in the amount of $2,017,300.85, inclusive of 10% contingency, to be paid for from the 2020 Bond Fund and Center Program Fund, as presented.
  • The Board of Education approved Bid Package T9 - District Wide Area Network E-Rate Project in the amount of $1,330,747.33, inclusive of 10% contingency, to be paid from the 2020 Bond Fund and Center Program Fund, as presented. 
  • The Board of Education awarded physical moving services in the total amount of $523,850.00. The total sum covers the moving services for 2025 summer construction work, and are being paid using Bond Funds.
  • The Board of Education approved the changes to the Bloomfield Hills High School course offerings for the 2025-26 school year, pursuant to Board Policy 3001, as presented. 
  • The Board of Education approved the First Amendment with the additional amendments as discussed at the January 27, 2025 meeting to the Cooperative Agreement between Bloomfield Hills Schools and the Charter Township of West Bloomfield Parks and Recreation Commission, as presented.
  • Kevin Sutton from Miller Johnson provided a Board Governance and District Operations Overview.
