Alternative Education Update

Bloomfield Hills Schools has a long-standing commitment to alternative education, with the program evolving in both name and location over the years. Most recently BHS has run its alternative education programming as Bowers Academy, located at Bowers School Farm. Beginning in the 2025–26 school year, the program will transition to Bloomfield Hills High School. 

The program will expand to serve students in grades 10–12 and will maintain its focus on small class sizes, personalized learning, and multiple pathways to graduation. The students will now have access to the full range of BHHS resources while continuing to benefit from the core principles of alternative education.

A detailed and supportive transition plan is in place for the 17 currently enrolled students and their families. This includes personalized academic counseling, staff guidance, and ongoing communication to ensure each student is supported and set up for success during the transition to the BHHS campus. In addition, district leadership is working collaboratively to ensure impacted staff are supported and that the transition is smooth, thoughtful, and well-coordinated.

This decision was made with students at the heart of the process. BHS's focus remains on creating a learning environment that expands academic opportunities, enhances student support, and strengthens the overall effectiveness of the alternative education program.
