Building and Site Sinking Fund Millage Renewal Proposal

On November 7, 2023, voters in Bloomfield Hills Schools will be asked to consider a Building and Site Sinking Fund Millage Renewal Proposal. The district is asking to continue to levy 0.6976 mills for a period of three years.

As employees of BHS, we wanted to share the Dos and Don'ts for school districts as it relates to elections.

A sinking fund millage levy was originally approved in 2005, and most recently renewed in 2018 in the amount of 0.7165 mills (permanently rolled back to 0.6976 mills), which is set to expire in 2023. 

School districts can ask their community to vote on a property tax (Sinking Fund Millage) to raise money annually strictly for the following purposes: construction and repairs to school facilities, school security improvements, technology and other capital items such as school buses.

To continue to improve and maintain the district's facilities, improve security and upgrade technology, it is necessary to ask voters to consider a sinking fund renewal levy for a period of three years, expiring in 2026.

All voters in Bloomfield Hills Schools boundaries are encouraged to learn more and vote on November 7.
