Celebrating Collaboration and Advocacy for Our Youngest Learners!

We’re proud to share that our countywide Deaf and Hard of Hearing program, housed right here in Bloomfield Hills Schools, partnered with Oakland Schools to apply for the LEAD-K grant, supporting language access for our birth to five DHH children across Oakland County.

As part of this important work, we invited leaders from the Michigan Department of Education—Roxanne Balfour (Director, Low Incidence Outreach), Elizabeth Flores (DHH Project Manager, MDE-LIO), and Sara Sibble (2021 Michigan Virtual Online Teacher of the Year)—to collaborate with us in sharing the vision and impact of the new LEAD-K legislation with special education directors across the county at the most recent SEAOC meeting.

Special shoutout to Chris Spike and Becky Lozar, who spent the last two years serving on the state stakeholder committee that helped shape the bill signed by Governor Whitmer this past December. This is a huge step forward in ensuring early support for all children!
