The Bloomfield Hills Schools Distinguished Service Award is given annually to recognize extraordinary contributions and service by district staff members, community members, parents, Board members and alumni. Three members of the Bloomfield Hills Schools community are being recognized for the 2024-25 DSA.
The first person who has earned the Distinguished Service Award is Systems Architect, Alex Noordhoorn. Alex Noordhoorn has been a cornerstone of Bloomfield Hills Schools for 28 years, playing a vital role in shaping and maintaining the district’s technology infrastructure. Noordhoorn's expertise and dedication have been instrumental in keeping our systems running smoothly and efficiently. Noordhoorn's commitment goes far beyond daily responsibilities; Noordhoorn dedicates countless hours to ensuring that our technology functions seamlessly, empowering educators to teach and students to learn without disruption. Noordhoorn's hard work and unwavering dedication are invaluable to the success of our district.
The next recipient of the Distinguished Service Award is Chris Spike, a dedicated and compassionate Speech-Language Pathologist. Spike provides invaluable support to our Deaf and Hard of Hearing students, ensuring they have the tools and resources needed to succeed. Spike is known for going above and beyond in her role, always willing to lend a helping hand to her coworkers. Spike takes the time to build meaningful connections with each student, colleague, and family she works with, creating a supportive environment for all. Spike's dedication and kindness make a lasting impact on our school community.
The final Distinguished Service Award (DSA) has been awarded to Robin Thornbury, a dedicated member of our Kidz Zone program. Kidz Zone plays a vital role in many students' daily routines—it's where their school day begins and ends. Thornbury goes above and beyond to create a warm, welcoming, and nurturing environment, treating each child as if they were her own. Thornbury's kindness, patience, and dedication make Kidz Zone a place where students feel safe, supported, and excited to be. In fact, many BHS students love their time in the Kidz Zone so much that they don’t want to leave when it's time to go home!
