Welcome Lora Boka, Director of Special Education

After a rigorous interview process, the Board of Education appointed Lora Boka as the Director of Special Education with an effective date of January 29, 2024.

With a career spanning 30 years in education, Boka began as a Special Education teacher and progressed to roles such as Team Leader, Teacher Consultant, and Program Specialist. She also spent ten years as an Elementary Principal and most recently, served as Coordinator of Student Services supporting a wide range of special education programs districtwide at Livonia Public Schools.

Boka has a Bachelor of Science in Special Education from Central Michigan University, a Master of Science in Educational Administration from Wayne State University, and completed the Special Education Administrator Program, Education Specialist from  Wayne State University. 

Beyond her professional achievements, Lora is married to Don, a high school teacher, and has three adult children: Nicholas, who returned to the University of Michigan after a brief professional hockey career, to pursue his MBA at Ross Business School; Luke, who is playing professional hockey for the Orlando Solar Bears; and Allison, a junior at the University of Michigan studying Communications and Public Relations. She shares her home with an adorable Goldendoodle named Skeeter.
