Strategic Planning

Over the past year, we’ve listened closely to students, staff, and families to understand what sets BHS apart, as well as the values our community holds most dear. From this work, we defined our mission, vision, and why. We also embraced a new tagline that captures our promise: Belong Here - Excel Anywhere.
Now we’re taking the next step: creating a strategic plan to guide Bloomfield Hills Schools over the next five years. This plan will be our roadmap, ensuring that our vision comes alive in classrooms and throughout our community. Most importantly, it will be a collaborative effort that draws on the voices of our students, staff, families, and community to shape a shared path forward.
Strategic Planning Update
Since the fall, a Strategic Planning Working Group representing voices from across Bloomfield Hills Schools (including school and district leaders, teachers, district staff, parents, and community partners) has been meeting regularly to help shape the district’s next strategic plan.
Throughout this process, the Working Group has reviewed a wide range of quantitative and qualitative data to better understand both BHS’s strengths and areas where there are opportunities to further support student success. Using these insights, the group identified four goal areas that will serve as the foundational pillars of the new strategic plan.
Student voice has been an important part of this work. During the winter months, middle school and high school students participated in focus group meetings to share their experiences, perspectives, and hopes for the future of BHS. Their input has helped refine and strengthen the draft goals.
In addition, staff members have had opportunities to review and provide feedback on the proposed goal areas during staff meetings.
These goal areas and initiatives represent where BHS aspires to go. The final strategic plan, which will be shared in Fall 2026, will also outline the action steps and clear metrics to measure progress and measure success over time.
The Working Group
The Strategic Planning Working Group brings together a comprehensive team of voices from across Bloomfield Hills Schools to guide and shape the planning process. This group is intentionally designed to represent the many perspectives that make our district strong.

District Goals and Initiatives
After several Working Group meetings, Board workshops, and extensive input from students, staff, and the community, we have developed four strategic goals, and the initatves that support them.
At the May 18, 2026 Board of Education meeting, the District's Strategic Plan Goals and Initiatives were approved.
Student, Staff, and Community Feedback
Spring
Bloomfield Hills Schools invited the broader community to provide input as the district moved from draft goals toward a finalized strategic plan. Earlier in the process, students shared their perspectives through focus groups and staff members provided feedback during winter staff meetings. The district then gathered additional input from families, community members, and stakeholders through an online survey and a series of community feedback sessions held on March 3 at North Hills Middle School and South Hills Middle School, and on March 4 at the Bloomfield Township Senior Center. Community feedback from these sessions and the survey helped inform the continued development of the district’s strategic plan.
Fall
BHS believes student, staff, and community feedback is critical to our strategic plan’s success. For that reason, we asked the community to share their insights as we develop the plan’s goals and priorities. The survey was open from December 1 - 10, 2025. Thank you to everyone in our school community who participated and shared your perspective in the survey.
