As I reflect on my first 90 days as Superintendent of Bloomfield Hills Schools, I remain incredibly honored and humbled to lead this exceptional community that is committed to learning, growth, and achievement. Our district has a reputation for excellence, and together, we will build on this strong foundation to ensure every student has the opportunity to thrive.
This year, I am especially proud to introduce our district’s guiding message: Dare to C.A.R.E—Connect, Acknowledge, Respect, and Engage. This challenge, when actioned, will have the ability to foster a culture where students, staff, and community feel valued and respected. We believe authentic connections and mutual respect are at the heart of a successful learning environment, and I encourage all of us to embrace this challenge throughout the 2024-25 school year.
Our commitment to academic excellence remains unwavering, and we will continue to offer cutting-edge resources, programs, and support to equip our students with the skills they need for future success. Whether in the classroom, through our robust extra and co-curricular offerings, or in the community, we are dedicated to ensuring every student is prepared for a bright and promising future.

Mr. Rick West is an educational leader with more than 16 years serving public schools in Michigan. Prior to joining Bloomfield Hills Schools, he served as the deputy superintendent of the Troy School District, where he worked for 10 years. He also served as the executive director for business services at Royal Oak Schools and as interim superintendent/business manager of Atherton Community Schools.
Mr. West has a Bachelor of Business Administration from the University of Michigan and a Master of Business Administration from Texas A&M University, along with numerous certifications including the School Administrator Certificate from the Michigan Department of Education.
