Decisions, Decisions:  Coding, Art or Sports


Finish off the month of October by participating in one of these exciting classes!

Let's Code It:  Digital Dimensions at CONANT ELEMENTARY

This course will immerse students in the world of computer programming.  Your child will have the opportunity to design games, explore animation and combine music and art with coding.  This class uses the block-based programming system,  Scrate, developed by the MIT Media Lab, to teach programming concepts.  In addition to teaching programming skills, this course will also nurture students' creativity and problem solving skills.  No previous experience is necessary.  October 22 – November 11/29.

Let's Build It:  Chain Reactions in Action!  At WAY ELEMENTARY

In this STEAM program, students build Rube Goldberg "Mouse Trap" chain reaction machines featuring simple machines.  Engineering and physics concepts will be introduced through hands on and innovative lessons and creative free time.  Problem solving skills and teamwork will be put to the test as the complexity of the projects increases.  No previous experience necessary.  Each student will receive an award on the last day and have the opportunity to earn Energy Belts to demonstrate learned skills.  October 22 – December 3.

CRAFT FUN!

  • Painting with Friends at Conant on October 30 and October 26 at Eastover; 1 day session!
  • Friday Craft Night at Eastover on October 26; 1 day session
  • Kids Kitchen Concoctions  at Conant on October 24; 1 day session
  • Weird Science at Eastover running from October 30 to December 19
  • Halloween Cartooning at BHMS on October 31 (schools have ½ day) at 2:00 p.m.

SPORTS!

  • Dragons Floor Hockey at Way taking place from October 30 to December 18

There are only a few openings in the LITTLE VET SCHOOL:  ALL ABOUT DOGS classes starting at Conant (10/29) and Way (10/25).

Ski and Snowboard Club - 2019

The Ski and Snowboard Club will be open for registrations on Monday, October 15, 2018.  You can view the brochure and/or register online at www.bloomfield.org/recreation or contact us at 248-433-0885.  Please note that the mandatory Emergency Contact and Liability forms are included in the brochure and must be returned to Recreation by 1/4/19.

If you are unable to download or print the brochure, please note that a paper copy will be coming home in your child's backpack within the next couple of days.

2018 BHS Ski Swap

Join us at the BHS Ski Swap in the Bloomfield Hills Middle School Field House on Saturday, November 10, 2018, from 9:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m. A huge savings on hundreds of new and slightly used skis, boots, snowboards, apparel and accessories will be available for all ages. For additional information please email bloomfieldskiswap@gmail.com.

Coding Classes: Space Available


The Recreation department is excited to have several fun coding/STEAM classes being offered at the elementary schools!

*Please keep in mind that we have to cancel two days ahead of a class start date if we do not receive the minimum number of registrations. We ask that interested children be registered as quickly as possible. Bloomfield Players Community Theatre - Open Auditions
The Bloomfield Players Community Theatre Group is announcing open auditions for the Disney production of "The Little Mermaid".  Adult roles will be filled by adults and older teens; children ages 8 and up are encouraged to audition for kids' roles and chorus.  Grab the whole family and audition together!
 
Performances are taking place on January 25-27 and February 1-2, 2019.
 
Auditions take place on October 29 & 30, 2018, from 6:30 p.m. to 9:45 p.m. at West Hills Middle School at 2601 Lone Pine Road in West Bloomfield. Callbacks will take place Thursday, November 1.
