Parent Advisory Committee
BHS is pleased to invite you to participate in its Bloomfield Hills Schools Parent Advisory Committee (BHS-PAC), as well as extend to you an invitation to participate in the larger Oakland Schools Parent Advisory Committee, which includes all public school districts within Oakland County.
A Parent Advisory Committee (PAC) is an opportunity for parents/guardians and district representatives to discuss special education policies, programs, and matters relating to the success of all students in our district. The purpose of the PAC is to encourage informed parent contributions to discussions leading to decisions being made about special education programming. It is the district's purpose to promote a network of parents that have students with special needs to:
- Provide a forum to share helpful information
- Form parent/guardian-school partnerships that respond to the increasing needs of our diverse community
- Inform parents/guardians as much as possible about their student’s special education services
- Discuss a continuum of programming that meets the needs of all students with special needs
- Create a positive understanding and awareness for students with disabilities in all of our schools
In addition, parents/guardians are encouraged to lead PAC discussions, which focus on programming, curriculum, IEPs, instructional materials, and special education law. Parents/guardians are also encouraged to ask questions and request guest speakers and/or training from community providers/services, and/or school personnel.
Each meeting will include an on-site Unified Event for your student to participate in while you attend the meeting. Unified Sports pairs students with and without disabilities on the same team. Under the auspices of the Special Olympics, Unified Sports was inspired by a simple principle: training together and playing together is a quick path to friendship and understanding.
