Chalk about Peace

Students from the Bloomfield Hills High School Lead 9 class recently participated in a Chalk About Peace community service event at BHHS and all three BHS middle schools. More than 50 students at each location wrote positive talk messages in chalk on the schools’ front sidewalks to uplift the community.  Olivia Lupone (9th grader, BHHS) was part of the event. “A lot of people were walking by and reading the messages,” said Lupone. “We hope they had a better day because of it.”

PREP Therapy Dogs

Bloomfield Hills Schools received therapy dogs in the 2021-22 school year, with two serving the Lone Pine and West Hills School communities for most of the year. More recently, therapy dogs have joined Bloomfield Hills Middle and East Hills Middle Schools. The value of the therapy dog program extends beyond the single school communities in which they’re placed; a collaboration with the PREP program is one example.

Students who thrive in a small environment that develops character, integrity, compassion for others, and academic skills will find success at Bowers Academy.
Founded to address the needs of non-traditional learners, Bowers Academy balances academic challenge with self-reflection, exceptionally small class sizes, and the unique learning environment of the Bowers Farm.
Our ultimate goal at Bowers Academy is to graduate competent, empathetic, aware, and empowered individuals.

Core Beliefs

  • Relationships are primary, particularly in this setting. Staff are sensitive to power struggles that impede the formation of positive relationships.
  • Student choice facilitates engagement and offers a sense of power to students.
  • All students learn at different rates. Bowers Academy offers an alternative setting to structure the delivery of curriculum around this concept.
  • The delivery of our curriculum must offer a significant departure from what students have already experienced and failed.
  • Bowers Academy strives to create a safe environment for students to make choices and establish independence.
  • A low student to teacher ratio is maintained.
