Dear BHMS Parents and Guardians:

I hope this letter finds you doing well as we head into spring. I wanted to notify you of a change at BHMS that will take place over the next couple of weeks. Our Associate Principal, Brian Fitzgerald, will be undergoing heart surgery that requires him to be out of the building from March 26, through the end of the school year. Our thoughts and prayers will be with him during this time and throughout his recovery. We look forward to his return to BHMS in the fall, as Mr. Fitzgerald is and continues to be a major part of our BHMS family.

During Mr. Fitzgerald's absence David Baker, 6th grade social studies teacher, will be stepping out of the classroom and into the role of Associate Principal. Mr. Baker has proven to be an exceptional teacher-leader and collaborator, continuously focusing on building strong relationships with students and families, and has a broad knowledge of our school, with over 20 years of experience at BHMS alone. Starting March 19, Mr. Baker will work directly with Mr. Fitzgerald during the week leading up to his surgery. On March 26, Mr. Baker will make the full transition and oversee various roles and responsibilities within the building as our interim Associate Principal.

It is important for our administrative team and Mr. Baker to fill his vacancy with a teacher that has strong social studies credentials, experience in a middle school setting, and the ability to foster the same relational skills that Mr. Baker exhibits. To that end, we are completing a final series of interviews this week and will be assigning an interim teacher. An introductory letter will be sent out to families of students on Block 6B once we've secured a qualified candidate to close out the school year. I will be working directly with our dynamic 6th grade teachers and our newest member of the team to assure your student will be in good hands.

My door is always open, so please feel free to contact me if you have questions or concerns about this transition. I am confident that the different assignments in the building will continue to provide the same quality learning environment to which your family is accustomed. Beyond that, and keeping things in perspective, we wish Mr. Fitzgerald a safe procedure and a quick recovery during his time away from BHMS.

Sincerely,

Randy English, Principal

Bloomfield Hills Middle School
