BHMS LANCER PRIDE AT ITS FINEST

What can 4 hours, 5 families, 6 mum plants and 37 yard bags do? The pictures below are worth 1,000 words in answering that question. The Martel, Ullem, Schenke, Vaupel and Eaton families took the term "Labor" in Labor Day Weekend very seriously, and donated their time and energy to making BHMS look so welcoming for the start of the new school year. Heidi Janczyk also put in some solo time weeding in advance of the weekend. Everyone at BHMS is so thankful not only for the hard work of these families, but also for the pride it showed in the school. In fact, they are the inspiration for a new Beautification Club that will be part of the club offerings to be announced later this month.Watch for information about sign-ups in a future Lancer Update, and encourage your student join the Beautification Club.

Thank you again to these wonderfully committed families. They exemplify Lancer pride.

2018 Fall Sports Information

A LETTER FROM THE MIDDLE SCHOOL ATHLETIC DIRECTOR, AVIS NAJOR

Hello to all!

The school year is about to begin and the fall sports season is upon us. Most fall sports begin Thursday, September 6, 2018. Please contact the coach or see the information sheet for team specific information.

Please to make sure that your student has a physical on file with the main office. You must use the BHSD mandated Athletic Physical Form. Other forms from doctor's offices will not be accepted. Only physicals dated 4/15/2018 or later are valid for the 2018-2019 school year. All students will need a completed physical form on file with each school's main office before being allowed to participate in tryouts/practices.

The Pay to Participate fee is a $150 fee which you will need to pay if your student makes a team. Some teams are "no-cut" sports so the fee can be paid right away. For those sports with tryouts, you can wait to see if your student makes the team before you pay the fee.

The best resource for all up-to-date athletic information is the Middle School Athletic webpage. The information in this message and more can be found at www.bloomfield.org/middleschoolathletics. Our sports schedules can now be found at:

You can find our sports competition schedules from the links to these pages found on our Middle School Athletic web page

*Note on sports schedules: Though some coaches give out the season schedule at the beginning of the season, I advise checking your school's website athletics page for the most current information on schedules as they do change during the course of a season.

Please contact me (avnajor@bloomfield.org), or the coaches, if you have any questions.

Yours in Sport,

Avis Najor
Middle School Athletic Coordinator

TIME TO TURN IN YOUR BOX TOPS FOR EDUCATION

BHMS collects Box Tops for Education all year around, but there are only two redemption dates during the school year. The next one is coming up soon. Please drop of any Box Tops that you've been collecting into the collection box in the main office.  If each student brought in only 10 box tops a month during the school year, BHMS would earn $6,750 annually to use toward programs or purchases not covered under the budget. Thanks for supporting BHMS in small ways that can have big results. For a list of products that contain Box Tops, click HERE.

REMINDER ABOUT NUT RESTRICTIONS AT BHMS
Please remember that BHMS IS A NUT-RESTRICTED BUILDING, 24-HOURS A DAY, SEVEN DAYS A WEEK. There are students in the building who are highly allergic to peanuts and all kinds of tree nuts, and their well-being is of concern. Students should not bring lunch or snacks containing nuts or nut products. Additionally, please be sure that anything given to the office staff, to teachers, for classrooms, bake sales, end-of-sports or club parties or any other occasion are free of all nuts and nut products. Thank you so much for your consideration.

CALL 248-341-6010 FOR ATTENDANCE MATTERS

In order to report absences, late arrivals, request early dismissal or a bus pass, or to get a school-related message to your child on a timely basis, you must call the attendance line directly at 248-341-6010.  Calling 248-341-6010 will get you to a recorded line. Messages on that line are checked on a regular basis throughout the school day. Leaving a message on any other line may result in the message not being retrieved or passed on to your student on a timely basis. Please program the 248-341-6010 attendance line phone number on to your phone and use only that line for the above purposes. Thank you.
