CLUB SIGN UP SEPTEMBER 18 AND 20 DURING STUDENT LUNCHES

BHMS is excited to offer 18 student co-curricular clubs this year, with eligibility varying by grade. Students will have the opportunity to sign up for clubs during all lunch hours on Tuesday, September 18 and Thursday, September 20. An announcement will be made to students on Monday, Tuesday and Thursday. Students will also be reminded during a lunch hour announcement on Tuesday and Thursday.  Students must sign themselves up on those dates. Please do not contact a club sponsor or the office directly to sign your student up for a club. A link to the Club Schedule can be found at the end of this article.

We encourage you to review the club options with your student before the sign up next week to make sure that your family's schedule can accommodate a club schedule. For families of 5th and 6th graders in particular, it may be helpful to have your student bring in a piece of paper with the club(s) for which they want to sign up. This is the first exposure to clubs for many of the students, and the list will help ensure that they get signed up for the right clubs.

As you review club options, please keep the following in mind:

  1. While BHMS hopes to accommodate as many interested students as possible, the maximum enrollment varies with each club. If the # of students signing up exceeds maximum club enrollment, an equitable method will be used by the club sponsor to determine final membership.
  2. A District Pay to Participate (P2P) fee is required to participate in any BHMS club. If you paid a P2P fee for your student during registration or for a sport, you do not need to pay again. DO NOT pay P2P fee to club sponsor. Pay according to directions on this District P2P Form.
  3. Students in morning clubs may not enter the building until five minutes before the start of the club.
  4. Students in afternoon clubs must be picked up immediately at the end of a meeting. Out of safety for your student and consideration to club sponsors, students who are not picked up on time will no longer be allowed to participate in a club.
  5. Remember that the District offers Kidz Zone before and after school care at BHMS. If you need to drop your student off earlier than a club start time, or can't pick them up immediately at the end of a club meeting, we recommend that you register them for Kidz Zone. The program runs from 7 a.m. until 6 p.m. but pre-registration is required. It is not a drop-in program.

Open this Club Schedule to see what is available. There are old favorites along with several new clubs this year. Please direct questions to club sponsors via e-mail by clicking on the sponsor's name.

BHMS LANCER PRIDE AT ITS FINEST

What can 4 hours, 5 families, 6 mum plants and 37 yard bags do? The pictures below are worth 1,000 words in answering that question. The Martel, Ullem, Schenke, Vaupel and Eaton families took the term "Labor" in Labor Day Weekend very seriously, and donated their time and energy to making BHMS look so welcoming for the start of the new school year. Heidi Janczyk also put in some solo time weeding in advance of the weekend. Everyone at BHMS is so thankful not only for the hard work of these families, but also for the pride it showed in the school. In fact, they are the inspiration for a new Beautification Club that will be part of the club offerings to be announced later this month.Watch for information about sign-ups in a future Lancer Update, and encourage your student join the Beautification Club.

Thank you again to these wonderfully committed families. They exemplify Lancer pride.

TIME TO TURN IN YOUR BOX TOPS FOR EDUCATION

BHMS collects Box Tops for Education all year around, but there are only two redemption dates during the school year. The next one is coming up soon. Please drop of any Box Tops that you've been collecting into the collection box in the main office.  If each student brought in only 10 box tops a month during the school year, BHMS would earn $6,750 annually to use toward programs or purchases not covered under the budget. Thanks for supporting BHMS in small ways that can have big results. For a list of products that contain Box Tops, click HERE.

REMINDER ABOUT NUT RESTRICTIONS AT BHMS
Please remember that BHMS IS A NUT-RESTRICTED BUILDING, 24-HOURS A DAY, SEVEN DAYS A WEEK. There are students in the building who are highly allergic to peanuts and all kinds of tree nuts, and their well-being is of concern. Students should not bring lunch or snacks containing nuts or nut products. Additionally, please be sure that anything given to the office staff, to teachers, for classrooms, bake sales, end-of-sports or club parties or any other occasion are free of all nuts and nut products. Thank you so much for your consideration.

CALL 248-341-6010 FOR ATTENDANCE MATTERS

In order to report absences, late arrivals, request early dismissal or a bus pass, or to get a school-related message to your child on a timely basis, you must call the attendance line directly at 248-341-6010.  Calling 248-341-6010 will get you to a recorded line. Messages on that line are checked on a regular basis throughout the school day. Leaving a message on any other line may result in the message not being retrieved or passed on to your student on a timely basis. Please program the 248-341-6010 attendance line phone number on to your phone and use only that line for the above purposes. Thank you.
