8TH GRADE NATIONAL JUNIOR HONOR SOCIETY UPDATE

For 8th grade students who submitted an NJHS Pledge Sheet in the fall, Mrs. Jaster has been calculating GPAs from the first three report cards and is meeting with students, as needed, to be sure this requirement is being met. Students need to have a Service as Action reflection completed by May 24, for a volunteer activity completed outside of the school day. The reflection should be submitted on the online Service as Action Form. Those completing the form for NJHS credit should indicate so at the bottom of the first page. The topic for the final requirement, which is an essay, will be shared with students after the Q3 report cards are out and GPAs are calculated, in mid April. The NJHS induction ceremony for students who have met all the requirements will be held at BHMS on Wednesday, June 5, at 7:00 p.m. Contact Mrs. Jaster if you have questions.

ARE YOU CALLING THE RIGHT NUMBER FOR ATTENDANCE?

Please remember to call the attendance line at 248-341-6010, not the main office phone line, to report attendance-related issues. Calling 248-341-6010 will get you to the automated attendance line where you should leave your information. Please note that you will NOT get a return call confirming that your message was received.

That attendance line is checked approximately every 15 minutes throughout the school day. Leaving a message on any other line may result in your message not being received on a timely basis, so please be sure to call 248-341-6010 for the any of the following reasons:

1) Report an absence (call by 9 a.m. please).

2) Report a late arrival.

3) Request to pick your student up before the end of the school day (for an appointment, etc.).

4) Request a bus pass for your student to go home with another student.

5) Leave a school-related message that needs to get to your student. An example of that type of message would be a change in your student's ride home.

REMINDER ABOUT NUT RESTRICTIONS AT BHMS

Please remember that BHMS IS A PEANUT and TREE NUT RESTRICTED BUILDING, 24-HOURS A DAY, SEVEN DAYS A WEEK. There are students in the building who are highly allergic to peanuts and all kinds of tree nuts, and their well-being is of concern. Students, parents/guardians or visitors should not bring items containing peanuts, tree nuts or products derived from nuts of any type into the building. This includes items given to the office staff, to teachers, for classrooms, bake sales, end-of-sports or club parties or any other occasion. Thank you so much for your consideration.
