Congratulations to the following Bloomfield Hills High School students who have earned the National Merit Scholarship Semifinalist designation:
Toby enjoys the outdoors, traveling and playing golf. He is the co-president of the Math Club and French Club. Toby also participates in BHHS Marching Band, the Investment Club, Movie Club, Chess Club, National Honor Society and Quizbowl. Toby serves as a school ambassador for BHHS.
Sophia’s passions include public speaking and environmental sustainability which lead her to becoming the Captain of the Forensics Team and Co-President of the Environmental Club. Sophia is a member of the BHHS Marching Band and in her free time, enjoys reading, running and baking.
Kevin is an avid swimmer and enjoys going to the beach and being outdoors. Kevin is an athlete on the BHHS Boys Swim and Dive Team. He participates in the Bloomfield Hills High School Marching Band, in the National Honor Society and is a member of the Math Club.
Pooja’s passion for science and technology led her to found the Coding Club and the Medical Careers Club, allowing her to continue to explore the intersections of STEM in a multitude of areas. Pooja is a HOSA Captain and Model UN member. Her hobbies outside of school include creating technology projects, participating in science fairs, and running technology workshops.
Cami represents her school through BHHS Student Leadership and is currently serving as Student Body Secretary. She is a member of the Dance and Pom Team and also loves to dance competitively outside of school. She is also involved in the National Honors Society, Student Advisory Committee, and multiple organizations within the local Jewish community.
Students were entered in the National Merit Scholarship Program by taking the 2019 Preliminary PSAT/NMSQT scholarship Qualifying Test. The pool of Semifinalists represents the top 1% of US high school seniors, it includes the highest scoring students among each state.
To become a finalist, students submit a detailed application. Students who win the scholarship will be recognized with a $2,500 college scholarship.
