The Michigan High School Esports League’s (MHSEL) Spring 2023 State Championship event was held at Western Michigan University’s Esports Arena. It was an amazing experience for the esports athletes to see each other in person after competing against one another virtually during the season. They played in Western Michigan University’s state-of-the-art esports arena and had live streamed “shoutcasting” (announcers) on stage in front of spectators which included college scouts. The MHSEL is the largest league in the state with 93 schools enrolled, 380 teams competing and more than 1,340 students engaged. 

“Our student athletes consider the in-person finals to be the pinnacle of their experiences in esports,” said BHHS esports Coach Aaron Strager, “It brings a sense of excitement and school pride that wouldn't be as heightened in an online competition.” Bloomfield Hills High School students made it to the top four in the state for the MHSEL Spring 2023 Season Super Smash Bros Ultimate. The BHHS team faced Rochester Adams High School in the final match and was awarded second place in the state. Congratulations to the BHHS esports varsity team!
